Who is the "Lord of Lords"?
by Chalam ini ran across this before but i think it is worth mentioning in its own thread.. i will quote the nwt for extra effect!.
nwt deuteronomy 10:17. for jehovah your god is the god of gods and the lord of lords, the god great, mighty and fear-inspiring, who treats none with partiality nor accepts a bribe, .
nwt psalms 136:1-3. give thanks to jehovah, o you people, for he is good:.

"Jehovah God"
by Jeffro inthe expression "jehovah god" has always seemed strange to me.
even when i was a jw, i found the term awkward, and never used it myself.
both words are nouns intended to be synonyms of each other, unless the name "jehovah" is being used as an adjective, which is also weird.

"Grace" and "post-modernity"
by Narkissos ini was thinking today (again, for i may well have already written something similar before) that if one word of christian theology has any chance to survive into (and, perhaps, past) the so-called "post-modern" era that would probably be "grace".. i wrote "word" rather than "concept" or "notion" because "grace" is not easily reduced to a single meaning.
in the bible the hebrew and greek words usually translated as "grace" ("undeserved kindness" in the nw overtranslation) happen to fall both sides of an unlikely semantic "border," between aesthetics ("grace" = "beauty") and ethics ("grace" = exception to, or excess over, "justice").
and in christian tradition too the idea of "grace" has been construed in a number of ways.

2001translation.com Website?
by lynnmelo inhi, again, folks (i've posted 2 times today).
my sister (who is also studying with the jw's) found this website.
it says it isn't affiliated with any specific religion, but she said that many of the explanations are right in line with the jw's take on things.

The other sheep: Looking for an apologist to offer an explanation
by IP_SEC ina verse constantly plucked from context by witnesses is john 10:16. they use it to prove that there are two classes of christian.. and i have other sheep i have other sheep, which are not of this fold: those also i must bring and they will listen to my voice, and they will become one flock, one shepherd.. the this fold say witnesses are anointed christians and the other sheep are christians with an earthly hope.. read the text carefully and in context, and i challenge anyone to be able to prove that.. in chapter 9 jesus heals a man born blind.
this infuriates the pharisees who then attack the healed man and threaten him with being expelled from the synagogue.
the man will not recant and is thrown out.. jesus finds him and asks him to be his follower.

True Religion vs. False Religion and James 1:27
by Ultimate Reality insomething that opened my eyes as i was re-examining "the truth" was the verse at james 1:27. in the new world translation the greek word in this verse, threskeia, is translated worship, which is fine except that it hides a more important meaning.
this same word can be, and most often is translated religion.. for witnesses, the matter of being the "one true religion" is all important.
pure and undefiled religion before god and the father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, to keep oneself unspotted from the world.. english revised version.
