Regional JW "Culture" - Did you experience any differences that surprised you?
by Diogenesister inso this particular comment on another topic got me thinking about "regional" jw cultures.
things that were acceptable in one area you lived in, that were absolutely verboten in the jw hall/circuit you perhaps grew up in etc.
never met jws that cared if people played chess, and i knew a number of people who did play chess.

Why is Jesus Depicted as the Warrior at Armageddon on just a Horse with a Bow and Arrow ?
by RubaDub ini never understood this.
the wt depicts jesus, the all powerful one to destroy evil, being depicted as using a bow and arrow from a horse.
that seems like something from medieval times.. in todays world of nuclear bombs, precision laser directed bombs and advanced military technology, does a bow and arrow really put a fear into anyone?.

Just ordered this
by dynamiterose77 ini just ordered this book.
(ok... it's not linking, it's called "i'm perfect, you're doomed: tales from a jehovah's witness upbringing" by kyria abrahams).
i came across it when trying to explain to a coworker about the end of the world images that would be in watchtowers when i was growing up and why they gave me horrible nightmares.

Journals or diaries..
by zeb ini have been keeping a journal for a long time.
anyone else do this?.
i have found that a diary helps to clear the mind of the events bad and good of the day in prep for sleeping..

A Mansion for the Resurrected, in Kensington
by dynamiterose77 ini was roving around the internet looking for articles about a completely different topic, when i came across this one.. i found it very interesting.. here's a quote.. "in a 1920 book called "millions now living will never die" he'd predicted that biblical leaders like abraham, isaac and jacob would be resurrected in 1925 and become "the visible, legal representatives of the new order of things on earth.".
while this didn't occur, rutherford still chose to be prepared for the return of the patriarchs.
he moved into the newly built house in kensington around 1930, calling it beth sarim (house of the princes).

Illuminati End-Times Deviled Eggs
by Nathan Natas ini never cease to be impressed by the clear thinking and iron-clad logic of "true buhlevers".
it almost made me writhe with desperation because i am an atheist.
almost... but actually i'm writhing with laughter.. .

Artists
by Incognigo Montoya inas a child i naturally inherited an interest in art, drawing and painting to be specific.
being a jw, the paintings and drawings in the literature always caught my eye and piqued my interest.
as i got older, and bettered my artistic abilities, i was often encouraged to put bethel as a goal, though it was family friends more so than my parents who suggested that i should pursue a bethel career, using my artistic skills.

"Put on the JW uniform - and take off Humanity"
by stuckinarut2 inwe all know about the variation in the "cult persona vs the "real persona" of those in high control groups such as jws.. it struck me this becomes even more pronounced and apparent when jws actually put on their physical meeting or service attire, or are engaged in jw activities.
they become more robotic as their responses and actions - yes their opinions and discussions- are stripped of humanity and thought, and they become turned into some sort of regurgitating jw orator.. when they literally put on a suit or tie, the level of judgement, arrogance and black and white thinking takes on a whole new level.
take that clothing off, and put them in casual attire to attend some sort of enjoyable activity (eg sports watching or the like) and they become far more relaxed, and "normal".. i have noticed this particularly with my father.

Interesting read about "Visions" and the brain
by dynamiterose77 inyears and years ago, i had read something in a book that clinically examined joan of arc and gave a hypothesis regarding her visions, using her own descriptions of the episodes and using what she experienced as symptoms.
i can't remember if they had said it was epilepsy or a brain tumor.. i saw this article today and it got me thinking again.
i also started thinking about how in the past, gb has talked about visions/divine inspiration/whatever... russell even endorsed a woman's book where she supposedly spoke to a "fallen angel".. kinda made me wonder....
