Years and years ago, I had read something in a book that clinically examined Joan of Arc and gave a hypothesis regarding her visions, using her own descriptions of the episodes and using what she experienced as symptoms. I can't remember if they had said it was epilepsy or a brain tumor.

I saw this article today and it got me thinking again. I also started thinking about how in the past, GB has talked about visions/divine inspiration/whatever... Russell even endorsed a woman's book where she supposedly spoke to a "fallen angel".

    Kinda made me wonder...

I've become very interested in the brain since learning TTAT, I made those connections very early and applied it to the bible it's accounts and writers.

Religious conviction and mental illness are a poor combination.

Hallucinations are another matter though and may well expalin quite a lot of it. Oliver Sacks has done a lot of work in this field.
