Here's another point to consider as it relates to the FDS. If the FDS were a group of men dispensing their interpretation of the scriptures without any threat of annihilation, that would be one thing. But, persons will be saved or destroyed based on their response to a relatively small sect that operates out of Brooklyn. Does that sound just? If God truly is a God of love as the Bible and the WT claims, then the vast majority of the world's population will not receive their warning before God brings Armageddon.
We were all greatly disturbed at the wiping out of over 160,000 persons by the tsunami in Southeast Asia. That destruction was an horrific and devastating tragedy. Yet, the wall of water wiped out people indiscriminately. That is no diifferent than what God will do if he limits himself to who does respond or who doesn't respond to the message that a small group of people, the Jehovah's Witnesses, deliver to the world. If we are horrified at the destruction of over 160,000 people in a natural disaster, how much more would we be horrified by the destruction of six billion people by a bloodthirsty God because those people didn't listen to a small sect in Brooklyn.
What makes up the FDS is the individual Christian. There is no such thing as a FDS that is made up of a group of men chosen by God to dispense spiritual food to the domestics. This is just the Faithful and Discreet Slave's ( their claim) way of getting a hold over the six million Jehovah's Witnesses. Otherwise, the WT Society would have no hold on its adherents.

Just about. To be scrupulously accurate, I'd rephrase it to this: "In 1927 the JW's GB decided that they were the F&DS because they claimed that in 1919 they were closest to doing Christ's teachings than anyone else."
Of course, the validity of such a claim rests not only on the interpretation that there was to be a composite "faithful slave" at all, and on whether a host of details about the "1914 chronology" are correct, but on whether the GB's claims about being the "closest to doing Christ's teachings than anyone else" are true.
Another point about the nonsensical nature of these claims: in 1919, when the board of directors of the WTS under J. F. Rutherford, and a few others, were supposedly "appointed over all Christ's belongings", the WTS was teaching that Christ's invisible return (parousia) had occurred in 1874 and that Christ was guaranteed to return physcially in 1925 and begin the battle of Armageddon. That was the entire theme of the much-touted campaign, "Millions Now Living Will Never Die". These "millions" were going to "get life" beginning in 1925. Furthermore, these oh-so-faithful Bible Students were teaching that the "resurrection of the saints" had begun in 1881, and this was changed to 1914 in 1927. Today the JWs teach that anyone who teaches such a false thing about the resurrection is an apostate.

i've read 3 pages of this thread. i get the feeling this lady is 75% already braqinwashed by the wt or is a wt troll. i can only wish her that the scales that or growing around her eyes will be lifted. john
Awww, johnny cip, I must disagree. All of my interaction with this sweet lady has been completely above-board. She sees the implications her decisions will have on the stability of her family, and she is naturally concerned.
I disagree to jon. Rebellious is searching to do what's right. But when almost everyone you care about is doing something that just doesn't make sense, there is a very strong pull for you to do what they're doing. (Despite what your brain is telling you...your heart is pulling you in a different direction.) Her struggle between her heart and brain are very obvious in her words. I've been there. Many of us have.

Thank you ladies, I appreciate the continued support. This entire thread has helped immensely because if nothing else I now KNOW that I can never be baptized so long as I feel the way I do (no more feeling like "eh, is it really a big deal to committ? now I know it would be a HUGE deal so long as I have so many doubts). It's making things sticky in my marriage, but I think we'll be ok. And I'll keep coming back, I have come to like many of you very much, and I appreciate your support and information.
