There was a point in Korean War when the US and SK pushed all the way to the Chinese border. Mao hit back with a vengeance. After that the US military were unwilling to take the war north of the 38th parallel.

I fault dwight for giving in and not finishing it and the world community as whole for quiting, although in the wake of WW2 the lack of appetite for armed conflict is understandable.

The Eisenhower Administration inherited the war, the situation is one that has never changed; the risk of all out war was and is having to fight China and back then also Russia.

The big mistake was made during the 90s when NK was allowed to gain the capability for nuclear weapons, the politicians that made those decisions have a big D after their names. It is very unfair to blame Dwight or Donald for someone's else mess.

And this one was General MacArthur biggest blunder, ignoring the civil authorities and acting like he was really an Emperor. WW3 was almost started; after the ensuing stalemate everyone kind of chickened out. There are no easy solutions, used to be that we will quiet NK with food and money; now they are really dangerous.

I am sure that the US has ways of punishing NK but that will only get NK more angry. NK will never throw their toys in the garbage . At most NK will agree not to send missiles to Guam or to the US if the US compromises with them. So there is nothing that the US can do to stop NK besides NuKe or compromise. The US will be forced to compromise or they will have to wait till rockets fly over DC before they act militarily.

I know that is a very simplistic approach for big problem, maybe our big brains can figure out how to cyber sabotage those missiles and installation. I think that something like this was done with Iran.

Like I said maybe too easy.

So, they will build another one improved.

    now they are really dangerous.

People with loaded guns are always dangerous.

And now that NK has nukes, they are not going to be pushed around by the US into submission.

Truman was decisive when NK invaded South Korea in June 1950. By October a UN force led by Gen. Douglas MacArthur had pushed NK back to the 38th parallel. He gambled that China would not enter the war and took a decision to push on to the Yalu River.

MacArthur was wrong. Mao committed millions of troops to retake NK. America had no military intelligence about what was going on in China and was totally taken by surprise. Hundreds of thousands of PLA troops attacked under cover of darkness forcing the UN army into retreat. It has been described as "the largest ambush in the era of modern warfare". The Chinese army were only stopped by a failure of logistics. They were fighting in temperatures of -30 and lacked the ability to supply the soldiers.

MacArthur proposed using nuclear weapons and even wanted to invade China. He was sacked by Truman and replaced by General Matthew Ridgway. He fought and brilliant campaign and imposed massive losses on the PLA but he was unwilling to take the battle north of the 38th parallel.

Stalin and Mao dragged their feet in the armistice talks extending the war by a further pointless two years. Stalin was happy to see the USA stuck in a costly war. The millions of troops Mao was continuing to send to NK were mostly Nationalists who had previously fought under Chiang Kai-shek against the PLA in the civil war.

An armistice was not signed until the death of Stalin in 1953 by which time 400,000 Chinese troops were dead and Mao was a Socialist hero.

You can only push NK so far before China gets involved.

I have said it before and I will say it again: North Korea should not be allowed to get nuclear missiles. But think it through: If the only way to prevent this is with a war, it is better to have one before they can nuke LA than after.

I guess you forgot that they already have nuclear weapons, and have multiple targets in the area that they would easily obliterate. Just because they can't hit LA, it doesn't mean that they can't kill million of innocent people easily.

There will be no war. The US will negotiate with them, just as they did with Iran, and the Trumpian god will eat his words about Obama negotiating with Iran. Pretty easy to complain when you are not sitting on the hot seat.
