Murder is a crime that must be reported in all states. Child molestation is a crime that must be reported in certain states only. You are comparing apples and oranges and there is really no comparison.

In states where the authorities don't have to be notified, if the society tells the publishers that in cases of molestation come to us first then there is really no onus on the poor publisher to carry this further. The society in these instances has made itself judge and jury and the publisher is none the wiser. Especialy if the poor smuck is really convined that the society is Jehovah's earthly organization. He feels that he has done the right thing and that he has done all he can do.

That is the thing that has to be changed in the organization in every state. If they are God's organization then they have to rise above state laws, set an example, and report child abuse cases in all instances, in every state.

Youre right Dutchie, it isnt the best of comparisons, I just was trying to highlight the whole criminal aspect of it. To me a criminal activity should be reported, bottom line.

We are in complete agreement about the reporting and the fact that the society should not be playing judge and jury in criminal matters. For a brief moment I forgot about the disparity between states in that regard. I guess that makes a good case for lobbying govt to make child abuse a capital or federal crime (my scant knowledge of US law leads me to assume that it would correct this, no?).

I personally found the gb position that in the states where reporting wasn't legally demanded it may not be done to be completely abhorrent. I agree that any religion should be adhering to a much higher moral code than simply what the bare minimum secular law demands. Those bleeding heart idiot judges up here in BC also ruled that it was ok to possess child porn too, frickin sickos, and the way the world seems to be headed the laws are only going to get worse.
