"Notice how confusedandalone has shifted his argument from "Islamic" advances contributions to "Arab" advances. He actually suggested earlier that the religion of Islam was responsible for many great contributions, and that Europe owes its advances to the religion of Islam. He seems to be incapable of separating the people from an aweful and barbaric modern day religion. This thread is about an American muslim convert who chopped his co-workers head off. If Islam is so wonderful as he claims then why does stuff like this keep happening where the common thread is ALWAYS Islam?"

tootiredtocarew again you are so witty yet completely off base. Traditional Islam promoted knowledge not just of ALLAH, but of the Universe and Life itself. Unlike Christianity which during the same period would KILL PEOPLE who tried to couple the two. This framework is what caused the advancement of medicine and mathematics throughout Arab lands at a time when other nations were doing the exact opposite. It wasn't until these nations became more concerned with war that these objectives of proliferating knowledge took a backseat to conquest.

Also the Muslim practice at that time of memorization of texts etc... is what also lead to a deep appreciation of learning for these people. You really need to do some research. Just because you are occasionally witty does not mean you are correct.

You are pandering to those in this thread who literally have no understanding od history and are like you completely enguled in thinking that everyone else is against you. No one here ever said ISIS needs to be allowed to take over the world. THey need to be stopped, but to discredit an entire group of adherents based on the actions of a few is the height OF STUPIDITY.

No one debates if ISIS should be stopped, but the way you all are discrediting nations and people and religious adherents is outright disgusting and ignorant.

You keep referring back to ISIS, and you are missing the giant red and woolly mammoth right in front of you. There are dozens of groups that will pop up right after ISIS is defeated. Why? Because Islam (the religion) is a mind fucking virus that will continue to create terrorists, and more groups just like ISIS here and abroad. Cofty made a great point: "there is little hope for progress until the basis for their ideology is discredited."

"Islamophobic is a word created by fascists, and used by cowards, to manipulate morons."

Andrew Cummings on twitter - wrongly attributed to the late, great Christopher Hitchens.

Because everything he says is spot on, under all circumstances.

Ask yourself a question and be truthful. Is there anyone on the planet that is truly Islamophobic?

What fascist or group of fascist created the word? If indeed a group of fascist created this word or combined the two words that make it up maybe they had valid reason

It may be used by cowards, but it is also used by some scholars as well.

Again a broad sweeping statement. Just because you respect someone does not make every word out of their mouth true.

Thanks for ignoring the valid and valuable information that was left in my comment to you regarding why that statement was made. Very telling.

These groups popup and gain momentum because of bad foreign policy and meddling in other nations affairs. Many of these same groups get weapons and training from whom??? Many of these people worked for whom before they form this crazy groups. The nations they gain grown in are generally ones that are meddled with by outside nations that destroy their governments and in turn leave a huge gaping hole for anyone to come in and start trouble. ISIS gains a foothold in Syria why??? Ask yourself why???

Let these people work out thier own issues. Stop trying to save everyone. Let's concentrate on the whackjobs HERE first. The economy here first. The hunger here first instead of everywhere else. People will not want to attack you if you are not meddling in there affairs.

I have spent enough time here and I need to go look for original seats for my '69 JUDGE I am restoring.

    well confused,

a number of the "whack jobs" here got out of a high control hate based religion and KNOW one when they see one. The b*stards are beheading folks! The great mass of so called moderate Islam follks are too afraid of them to speak up--- you know the way we were too afraid of the WTS and the GB and the elders b/c they could DF us. DF'ing is the equal to stoning per every jws elder I ever talked with. We all lived under the threat of stoning. That is why we had to invent ways to fade out and sneak out less our famlies cut ties with us. It is the same thing. The wts has stated that "ONLY THE LAW ( government in first world countries ) PREVENTS THEM FROM STONING SINNERS" Moderate Muslims would be risking their family and lives to disagree with these real Whack jobs. My friend I spoke about many pages back left his country and moved to usa but now they bring their hate based religion over here. My friend would be horrifed at the turn of events here in the usa but I'm not sure what he'd do either, you know to protect his family. We have to preserve ourselves you know.

I work with a couple of 'moderate' Muslims and it's interesting that they don't particularly believe it ( one said he didn't believe in god and the other said he wasn't very strict and only attended prayers when his family was visiting.) Is this true of the wider moderate Muslims? I wonder if moderate Muslims are the equivalent of Jack Mormons or Sunday Christians. If so I think they would not be considered true Muslims or am I giving Islam a rigidity it doesn't teach ( mind you killing someone for not believing doesnt argue for a liberal faith.)?

As an atheist I have to fight Islamic teachings and power. It would kill me under Sharia law unless I'm mistaken.

We are not living today among theocratic nations where such members of our fleshly family relationship could be exterminated for apostasy from God and his theocratic organization, as was possible and was ordered in the nation of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai and in the land of Palestine. "Thou shalt surely kill him; thy hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him to death with stones, because he hath sought to draw thee away from Jehovah thy God, . . . And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is in the midst of thee."-Deut. 13:6-11, AS.

Being limited by the laws of the worldly nation in which we live and also by the laws of God through Jesus Christ, we can take action against apostates only to a certain extent, that is, consistent with both sets of laws. The law of the land and God's law through Christ forbid us to kill apostates, even though they be members of our own flesh-and-blood family relationship.

Some people are seriously missing the point here... ISIS is a terrorist org. with madman who misuse a beliefsystem to justify their madness. It could have been IRA or REAL-IRA or any splintercell anywhere. What about all other religious systems? You can not reason with ISIS ... You can only smoke them out and kill them.

Mormonism is a classic example of what happens when religion thinks itself above secular law. Just remember this is the dark heart of happy, fluffy Mormonism.

“I [am] opposed to hanging, even if a man kill another, I will shoot him, or cut off his head, spill his blood on the ground, and let the smoke thereof ascend up to God; and if ever I have the privilege of making a law on that subject, I will have it so.”

    - Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr., History of the Church, v. 5, p. 296, 1949

“The time has been in Israel under the law of God, the celestial law, or that which pertains to the celestial law, for it is one of the laws of that kingdom where our Father dwells, that if a man was found guilty of adultery, he must have his blood shed, and that is near at hand.”

    - Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 4, p. 219

“I say, rather than that apostates should flourish here, I will unsheath [sic] my bowie knife, and conquer or die [Great commotion in the congregation, and a simultaneous burst of feeling, assenting to the declaration.]. Now, you nasty apostates, clear out, or judgment will be put to the line, and righteousness to the plummet [Voices, generally, ‘go it, go it.’]. If you say it is right, raise your hands [All hands up.]. Let us call upon the Lord to assist us in this, and every good work.”

    - Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 1, p. 83; online athttp://journals.mormonfundamentalism.org/Vol_01/refJDvol1-16.html

“If you want to know what to do with a thief that you may find stealing, I say kill him on the spot, and never suffer him to commit another iniquity. I will prove by my works whether I can mete out justice to such persons, or not. I would consider it just as much my duty to do that, as to baptize a man for the remission of his sins.”

    - Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 1, pp. 108-109

“This is loving your neighbour as ourselves; if he needs help, help him; and if he wants salvation and it is necessary to spill his blood on the earth in order that he may be saved, spill it.”

    - Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 4, p. 220

“I say, there are men and women that I would advise to go to the Presidency immediately, and ask him to appoint a committee to attend to their care; and then let a place be selected, and let that committee shed their blood. We have amongst us that are full of all manner of abominations, those who need to have their blood shed, for water will not do, their sins are too deep a dye... I believe that there are a great many; and if they are covenant breakers we need a place designated, where we can shed their blood... Brethren and sisters, we want you to repent and forsake your sins. And you who have committed sins that cannot be forgiven through baptism, let your blood be shed, and let the smoke ascend, that the incense thereof may come up before God as an atonement for your sins, and that the sinners in Zion may be afraid.”

    - Apostle Jebediah M. Grant, 2nd counselor to Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 4, pp. 49-51

“The principle, the only one that beats and throbs through the heart of the entire inhabitants of this Territory, is simply this: The man who seduces his neighbors wife must die, and her nearest relative must kill him!”

    - Apostle George A. Smith, Journal of Discourses, v. 1, p. 97

“The Mormons believe in blood atonement. It is taught by the leaders, and believed by the people, that the Priesthood are inspired and cannot give a wrong order. It is the belief of all that I ever heard talk of these things – and I have been with the Church since the dark days in Jackson County – that the authority that orders is the only responsible party and the Danite who does the killing only an instrument, and commits no wrong.... Punishment by death is the penalty for refusing to obey the orders of the Priesthood.
“I knew of many men being killed in Nauvoo by the Danites. It was then the rule that all the enemies of the Prophet Joseph should be killed, and I know of many a man who was quietly put out of the way by the orders of Joseph and his apostles while the Church was there. It has always been a well understood doctrine of the Church that it is right and praiseworthy to kill every person who speaks evil of the Prophet. This doctrine was strictly lived up to in Utah...”

    - Elder John D. Lee, Brigham Young’s adopted son and member of the Danites, John D. Lee Diaries

Nonsense. They pop up because some peopel take the teachings of their religion seriously.
