mP: Interesting that you determine a scientific question by observing what Al Gore does.

I think a reason a lot of this sentiment comes from the USA is because capitalism relies on growth and growth requires consumption. As it turns out these two are unsustainable in the long term (the increase in growth of consumption), people are worried it is a threat to their form of capitalism, and ultimately politics and way of life.

Of course not, but its a good tell and is compatible with my own other observations and research. You see the same in religion, do as i say and not as i do. Priests, popes, kings etc tell everyone to fear God, but they almost never do.

    Existance requires consumption.

Explain why no gov bans unnecessary pollution but sometimes taxes it. SUV are completely unnecessary in the city. A vast majority of SUV never get off the road and are cmpletely unnecessary.

That doesn't really answer my point or address anything really, very strange??? Perhaps go back and read it and start again?

mP: Its just interesting how you base your knowledge on other things than evidence. Say for instance Al Gore said an asteroid was going to hit earth in 2020 and we needed to deflect it, and he was supported by about 95+ of all astronomers. But al-gore was still making long-term investments -- would you then find it reasonable to base your knowledge on al gores actions or would you base them on evidence?

One of the reasons is perhaps that politicians are elected by people such as yourself who let their beliefs on a scientific matter be dictated by the actions of a person you dont like. Another reason might be that politicians themselves make use of inferential heuristics which are as poor and illogical as the one you just made use off.

bringen - China, they have more than a billion people to feed and provide clean water to. You can you expand on this a bit. I'm not understanding what you mean.

Lost... I mean many of those who use the 'well China isn't going to clean up so why should we?' line fail to consider that China is actually cleaning up their act because they do realise they need to. They need landspace to grow food and they need to ensure they have clean water supplies. If you watch the video, it discusses how they see these needs as new industries. Service industries. The work goes to where it is required and right now, one of the biggest industries is cleaning up what we've done in the past... out of necessity.

There is a lot more to China than factories and manufacturing...
