or Gen 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

I have no idea what God particle is for: Peter Higgs

I have no idea what God particle is for: Peter HiggsLondon: Professor Peter Higgs, the British physicist whose theories led to the discovery of the Higgs Boson, has admitted that he has “no idea” what practical implications the breakthrough could have.

Higgs refused to be drawn on whether the discovery proved there was no God, stating the name ‘God particle’ was a joke by another academic who originally called it the ‘goddamn particle’ because it was so hard to find. The 83-year-old was giving his first detailed press interview since the discovery earlier this week of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva.

The Higgs boson helps to explain how fundamental particles gain their mass - a property which allows them to bind together and form stars and planets rather than whizzing around the universe at the speed of light. “It’s around for a very short time,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying while speaking at Edinburgh University, where he published his theory about the boson’s existence in 1964.

“It’s probably about a millionth of a millionth of a millionth of a millionth of a second. I don’t know how you apply that to anything useful.

“It’s hard enough with particles which have longer life times for decay to make them useful. Some of the ones which have life times of only maybe a millionth of a second or so are used in medical applications.

“How you could have an application of this thing which is very short lived, I have no idea,” he added.

    Jnat,

"Would it be approximate to say that matter is a byproduct of "nothing" with substance?"

According Alan Guth's inflationary theory the universe and everything in it is the "Ultimate Free Lunch"

It is good that you use quotes here. Nothing has no properties.

There is an interesting concept I first remember understanding when studying Line Integrals. It's independence of path. It's used elsewhere in math, but that's where I first remember it. Expanding the concept, if the Universe begin with some arbitrary properties (or no properties), and someday returns to that same base state of properties (or no properties), just about anything can happen in between without violating the known laws of the Universe (like the conservation laws or the laws of thermodynamics). In other words, in the end, it is all zero sum.

But the real danger of looking at the "God" particle is that your head will blow off.

Lets just hope it is not a jealous type of god particle and that he likes tight pants for genital exposition, and is OK with deaf people who masturbation, it they do find out this particle to have these type of qualities then I say money well spent I'm think the god particle will be completely oblivious to these type of mood swinging behavors and just explain gravity better and how all this stuff got here in the first place maybe a theory of everything?
