Any updates on the SPY network at the I.R.S., F.B.I., and other agencies for Watchtower Bible and Tract Society?

I guess it boils down to respect for the law and common societal norms. I don't see the Watchtower Society making any moves in that direction anytime soon.

Is there really such a thing because I never heard of it? I have no doubt that some JWs will violate a confidence on their job and report back to the religion, thinking it is expected of them. However, the idea that they are "planted" in some organizations makes me sick. Couldn't the religion be sued because of the actions of its members if this is true?? Surely somebody who violates a confidentiality (medical/legal records) is putting their employer in a position of being sued by an angry patient/client.

While I myself would never violate a confidence because I am a responsible person who has worked my whole life, what about other less responsible and more gullible JWs? They would create an absolute disaster somewhere.

Sorry I missed your post Long Haired Girl. I never heard of ANYONE being "PLANTED" It seemed to just be a normal course of affairs. Someone studied who had already been working at agency "X" in a support position and happened to come accross damaging information to the Watchtower Society. Once they reported it upstream, the GB thanked them, gave them a direct line to Bethel and a long term relationship began. They felt they were like Easter and the king, and could help save God's people. It would be hard to "PLANT" someone at many agencies.

I've never heard of anyone being planted either - they make use of people already there.

I was working for a government department which involved dealing with foreigners in the country so we have names and addresses of people who didn't speak the local language. I was pressured over and over again by elders and COs to get these lists so they could be passed on to foreign language congregations. I never did.

They're not planted indeed. I know as a fact that there are JW's at hospitals that will dig up information on others. Even though HIPAA now forbids it and puts large fines upon those disclosing, it still happens occassionally.

I can believe there are JW's working at IRS or FBI offices and occassionally they may pass information through to the WTBTS but to make it a plot to alter or preempt the world governments is far fetched. The WTBTS is too small and insignificant for that although the WTBTS does (officially) attend UN and EU meetings on world policy and also parties regarding their millions of dollars they have in hedge funds. The Bethel finance department does have their own stock brokers and hedge fund managers.

The idea that they changed their policies on charging for literature based on that information is merely a myth. They knew it was coming when Jimmy Swaggart was losing his case. They are the ones that filed an Amicus Curiae in June 1989 (have copy if you want) and Jimmy's case was decided upon in 1990.

um, what part of WE ARE NO PART OF THIS WORLD AND CAN'T WAIT TIL IT'S DESTROYED AND ALL OURS, DO THE wtbts not get by including this in their damned, stupid tour?:

With Bethel Coach Tours, visit such sites as the Empire State Building, Broadway and Times Square, Ground Zero and of course, included are tours of the office complex, the Patterson Educational Center in Patterson, NY and Watchtower Farms! Not to be missed is a very special Bible tour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art! Organized by Oasis Group Tours, the tour takes about three hours and is entitled: "The Woman and the Seed" (Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia). This is the tour the Gilead School for missionaries take. The local Tour Guides assisting Oasis Group Tours do a very professional presentation; one that's unforgettable, encouraging and faith-strengthening!

Fortunately, the fun doesn't stop there! You'll also get to take in the sites and sounds of the magnificent Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC . The Smithsonian is the world’s largest museum complex. With 14 separate museums under its guidance, such as Air and Space, National Portrait Gallery and National Museum of American History, and more than 90 separate affiliated museums around the country. You could spend years wandering the Smithsonian’s halls and probably never see it all - but don't let that stop you from trying!

Our Visits to the Smithsonian museums and other prominent national museums in the DC area includes the National Museums of Natural History, American History, and Arts and Industries, Air and Space Museum, National Gallery of Art, Freer Gallery of Art, Hirshorn Museum, Holocaust Memorial, and the Washington Monument.

Seriously??? Besides, as a true jw, would it not be a serious compromise? Oh yea, wt is all about compromising it's flock.

    Carry on.

    Anony Mous;

I was drinking coffee on a break at the "home" in 1976 when a member of the Governing body was talking to a brother in the office discussing the possibility of not charging for Lit. in the future. They were discussing the information passed along by a sister who was a secretary at the IRS. I asked if it was common, he smiled and said "it wasn't uncommon. " Two days later I brought up the subject again, and he bragged about how common it was.

It would serve no purpose for me to be d'fed right now so I am not going to give the who, and where. I bring up things I know of PERSONALLY first hand. At the time I was a youth PROUD of our "theocratic warfare" against the "evil doers working against Gods people". Our families go back 3 generations, many have served at Bethel or in Branches. I haven't begun to tell all the stories family have told me over the years or my friends. Some stuff is too specific and will point to me if a member of my family or an old buddy knows the story or event and trolls this site.

When serving as an Elder in a medium sized area I personally knew of a number of "Friends" who worked as medical transcibers, court records, police records, medical records, video rental records, USPS, Health Insurance, or medical support. A few times a year one of them would secretly report to their body of elders a JW who had broken the "rules". Being treated for an STD, Blood, Abortions, birth control (single), alcholism, DUI, past due child support, arrests, renting porn or "R", Gun magazines, porn magazines. Hey a JW sorts the mail in our town, so getting the mail at a P.O. BOX in our town will not guarantee privacy. What happens is two brothers make a "Sheparding call" on the JW in question and give them the 5 minute "secret Sins" part. Surprizingly, about half are striken and think "god moved these elders" to uncover the sin and confess..not knowing they got ratted out by a JW. The 1/2 that smile and keep quiet just don't get "used" as much. The spies are protected. No one ever meets the accuser.- Welcome to the real world.

P.S. A lot more JWs than you can imagine troll this site a couple of times a month. I get calls about stuff on this site from very active JWs who tell me stuff I know they read here. They say "they heard it". LOL!!

Yesterday, while researching and calling various people about the Stacy Dugard/ Gulardo case and why the Watchtower/ JW connection was buried, I found it interesting one of the prosecuting DAs on the case was a D.A. who has done pro-bono work for Watchtower. More digging to be done on this one!
