Just an observation--This was written in 1978- so what has happened in about 35 years? We have seen that any race that neglects literacy, math & science and the nuclear family, will become subject to the race that doesn't.

The current news is that women who don't want a period have been able to take a new birth control pill for several years now, that can pretty much stop periods indefinitely-How does this affect women in the workplace? Plenty- they can spend six months on a desert island playing the Survivor game and not have to bring a case of Kotex with them.

Now, if would spend our time here trying to help educate JWs and the public about the evils of their shunning and unbiblical no-blood dogma, (that is killing people as we speak-) wouldn't that be better than worrying about a, woman's period?

Afghanistan, several years before the Afghan conflict.

She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.

She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind
their husbands. Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem happy to maintain the old custom.

Ms Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, 'Why do you now
seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?'

The woman looked Ms Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation
said, “Land mines.”

It is part of their doctrine, that women be in subjection to men.

How men treat women as the other is the main point. The Witnesses elevate miscogyny to an art form. No one is saying penises are bad but so much JW theology revolves around the penis as sacred. God is man (Excuse me!) when she should be female if any sex. Menstruation is exactly where authority goes, not 1914 or disfellowshipping.

Menstruation gets down to a male dominated society and a religion almost comprised of nothing but women. Women with no self esteem. I was raised that I was lowly and disgusting b/c of my body. As I said before, a vagina is every bit as good as a penis. Gloria Steinem is not only writing a fantasy about if men menstruated. She is talking about the dominant treats the other and the other believes it. Colored skin is devalued in American and even Chinese culture. Prob. in Japan and INdia, too. This is not inherent. It is who frames the issue. Black is beautiful was shocking when first heard. Now we accept it. No one called anyone black then, It was n....r, and Negro. Martin Luther King always enunciated Negro a certain way.

As Gertrude Stein wrote, A rose is a rose. And Shakespeare remarked that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

It is sad and funny to me that menstruation is off-topic on this website. Pizza toppings, TV episodes, weather reports, political dumping. It is precisely that it triggers such a response that makes it potent. Unless you post on all off-topic threads.

If we had power over the WT corporate structures, it would be a radically different organization. Imagine being the actor, rather than the complaining reactor. We set the rules and they diverge from them rather than being a dissident group. We are the norm, not the GB.
