so they never claimed to be an inspired prophet?

The basis of this thread is untenable since the quote from "All Scripture Is Inspired "book is incomplete and out of context, and has been discredited.

That does not change the basic truth, however that the WTS does claim to be the spokesperson for God on Earth and that to disobey them is to disobey God They have applied the word "prophet" to themselves and claim to be directed by Gods Holy Spirit - except when their words are proven wrong and then we are asked to forgive their human error.

They want it both ways. They succeed too, with their followers, as any who have debated with dub relatives knows only too well..Only thinking people see through it.

Incidentally, the term "Spirit directed " is actually describing a tighter control than "inspired". The dictionary says that to be directed to do something is a specific instruction from a superior..To be Inspired to do something can be as loose as just hearing a great piece of music and be inspired by it to write one yourself.

Inspiration allows for your own interpretation - direction means that you follow set instructions to write it down

well put Bluesbrother...Reniaa is here trying to play with definitions and apply the dictionary definition to the WT and claim it does not apply to them. She is ignoring the fact that the WT has point blank claimed to bea prophet, to be God's sole channel of communication, to be God's spirit directed organization...diagreeing with their view is disagreeing with God...put these all together and you are right- they have appointed themself higher than a prophet. They have actually appointed themself to Jesus Christ. So all this other wrangling on definition and application, 'we never said..", etc is all red herring.

I love how the Watchtower leadership twists the English language in order to avoid any accountability for their failed prophecies. Reminds me of former U.S. President Bill Clinton who famously stated "it depends on what your definition of 'is' is." He was rightly mocked and ridiculed for this absurd parsing of words. And this is the reaction that the WT deserves for its blundering attempts to avoid accountability as a prophet.

Yes, the WT Society is doing its best to 'have its cake and eat it too.' On the one hand, the Society claims to be God's only channel of communication and man's only means for salvation (to get to Jesus, you must go through the WT). Consequently, the Society demands complete obedience and adherence to its doctrines and rules. Just like the Catholic Pope, the Mormon President, and the like.

But on the other hand, the Society insulates itself from any accountability for its mistakes. It does this in several ways. For example, by impugning the character of individuals who bring these mistakes to light. Also, by twisting and contorting the definition of the word "prophet" beyond recognition.

By doing this, the Society demonstrates characteristics closer to that of the "evil slave" of Matthew 24. Note that the evil slave thought his master was delaying. In order to think your master is delaying, you must have expected him to come earlier (otherwise it would not be a delay). Who was it that expected the master to come earlier? Any reasonable observer will recognize that the WT Society has brazenly predicted Christ's return numerous times--and each time was a failure. Perhaps this is why the Society beats its fellow slaves...

Kinda like the WT on world events- anything bad going on? Read Matt 24 (out of context of course) and see this means the end is near. Things going well? Read ! Thes 4 (out of context) and see that peace and security is about to be declared. The end is near!

Again I say the worst that can be said of Jehovah's witnesses is that their intepretation has been at fault and they have been presumptious on dates but this is not making up a whole new prophecy because they only ever refer to bible prophecies like armegeddon and Jesus coming.

Okay, let's go with that comment...

The JW fault is that their interpretation of scripture is at fault...

If their intrepretation is wrong, yet publish it as coming from God through his earthly channel, namely the Society led by the GB, then either God was wrong or the Society lied. It doesn't matter if they called it prophesying, predicting or interpreting. They laid out timelines and dates and claimed that they alone had spirit direction from God. By your own words, they were at fault. By their own words they claimed prophet status, so any predictions or intrepretations as such that turn out incorrect makes them false prophets.

And the references to "only Armegeddon and Jesus' coming"... these aren't just little minor prophecies or predictions that are inconsequential. Their entire doctrine relies on the predictions of those events. If those are wrong, and they have been proven wrong, then their claim of being God's channel is worthless making the religion of JWs just another doomsday cult.

    undercover- case in point:

the 1914 generation that was not supposed to die...Who gave this teaching? The Wt. Who is the WT? The instrument used by the GB to communicate 'truth". Was this presented as a possibility? No, ask Mouthy. It was mandatory to beleive and preach with the threat of disfellowshipping. So it was a pretty serious issue on a major point. It has since been revised 2 times- both times contradicting all previous teachings on it.

your all redefining prophets and prophecy so as to condemn Jws from youir own standpoint.

Was moses, david, appostles etc perfect in intepretation? these were all classed as prophets yet clearly at times made mistakes suffering from imperfection.

being a prophet is simply being a spokesperson of God chosen by him when you are a false prophet you are speaking something other than the message of the bible.

dates on ACTUAL bible prophecy are at worst just mistakes born of imperfection but when you start teaching a message that isn't in the bible like trinity or immortality of soul etc then you are a false prophet.

Inspired Prophecy was given at a specific time and has ended now.

1 Corinthians 13:8-10 (New International Version)

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

but we can still make imperfect mistakes but we also have the bible to correct us the problem comes when we teach a message that is not biblical.

if someone says 'God loves us so he won't mind (insert something the bible condemns here)' then they are deliberately teaching a false message.

dates on actual bible prophecies is foolishness although we are told to keep in readiness and continue to warn of Gods impending prophecies we have to treat them as if they will happen at any time. Dates are the same type of imperfection like the thessalonians thinking Jesus was coming then too. but it's teaching a different message like the trinity does that is being a false prophet.

    Is armageddon a failed prophecy?

is Jesus coming a failed prophecy?

Is the destruction of false religion a false prophecy?

You condemn Jws for making dates and it is something we are warned over but it is not false prophecy by bible standards.

Prophets are God's spokeperson's we have to decide which in these times are actually preaching the actual inspired bible message the false ones will be teaching their own which doesn't appear in the bible.
