Why I'm a loser & I don't know what to do to fix it...

If 10 years at BethHell is bad, what about 16 years in Full time service for me... At least I woke up before I'm 40.

I'm not bitter, I'm looking to start my life over again. Maybe you're too close to JWs and you should reconsider the fade... can you just get out? no more meetings? no more fake FS? stop cold turkey?

    Just an idea.

    From a fellow loser... A@G

    Okay, I'm back...

    Page 3:

sacolton: You crack me up! Thanks!

Mickey M: Yep, I'm well trained at feeling like a loser. Talk about some serious WT baggage. What happened to "my yoke is kindly and my load is light."

    Princess DaisyBoo:

We all need a pity party once in a while!!!

Yep, and thanks for coming to my pity party. Next time I'll try to have snacks for everybody.

    LouBelle:

Change your thoughts / outlook and perhaps you'll start feeling a bit better and life will take on a different reality. Easier said than done - I know, but it's your choice.

True dat. Things are always changing. Everything around us changes. Sometimes the hardest thing to change is me.

    BFD:

Thanks for the PM. You have really been through the wringer. Although we've travelled different paths, we've both learned the truth about da troof at the same time. If you can keep dealing with life's challenges, so can I. I wish you all the best, too.

    freydi:

    Roses are red,
    Violets are blue,
    Your poem was inspiring,
    For that I thank you.

    milligal:

My husband was an ex-bethelite and went through similar feelings of failure after leaving. For him, things didn't really turn around until he took some major steps to change his life. He joined the military and started college. It really gave him a sense of direction and he felt good about himself again.

You might not have to go to that extreme, but just remember there are a lot of things you can do with your life, it's not too late and you're not a loser

It may be extreme, but I'll list it as an option. Thanks for the pep talk and personal experience. "Friends, does it not warm your heart to hear these true-to-life experiences of those who have taken positive steps to deal with post-cult trauma?" [cue applause]

    BigTex:

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. And the Teddy Roosevelt quote, I think I'll print it and frame it. I don't aspire to his level, but his words have meaning for me.

    Momzcrazy:

The key is how well you stand back up and dust the seat of your pants. And then TRY AGAIN!!!

Thanks Momz, usually I'm pretty good about gettin' up and forgin' ahead. This time, in a manner of speaking, I kinda fell on a rake, so I'm picking the prongs out of my posterior. But, hey, next time I'll remember to fall away from the rake...

    snowbird:

Thanks for your kind words. Many of you Christians here really are good sports. I like that. I'm still learning to differentiate Christians from JWs. Is there such a thing as a "JayDar"? Like, a radar to detect believing JWs. I mean, there are some 'scholars' that appear on JWD and you can tell they're totally flaming, prancing, JWs! (previous comment not intending to offend anyone other than total JWs) Others of us here are 'in' but mentally 'out', others here are 'out' but still Christian, so sometimes may appear 'in'. If there's a working JayDar, I'd like to take it to a DC to just see how many unbelievers are attending. Okay, this is a rather dumb going nowhere type reply to a nice comment.... Thanks again, Sylvia. I bookmarked the trivia quiz and hopefully will start having more free time to join the fun!

    nvrgnbk:

Make a list of all that you've done that you would classify as positive.
Take note of even the smallest of achievements.

Have started. I'm working on setting goals, too. I'll look around for what therapy is around here. Does massage therapy count? Even for a starter? Thanks.

    hillbilly:

Now pull your slacker a$$ britches up and lets get with it!

Heya Cousin Hill - I took off my slacker a$$ britches and put on my kicking a$$ britches... and have been working my a$$ off.

    sass_my_frass:

How many guys do you think there are out there who don't wish that they'd woken up after only ten years? Nah you'll sort it out mate,

    While I wish I'd awakened 10 years ago, I'm glad I didn't waste another 10!
The sorting and adjusting takes time. I'm glad I have JWD.

    OUTLAW:

3 pages is awesome! This has really helped!

Your going to have to do something different to change your life..I moved to the Wilderness..Dam near killed myself the first time I tried it.

I kinda grew up near the wilderness, except we were plenty close for meetings and field circus. I suppose I could go someplace far away from civilization... say Texas. Oh, but they don't have the Interwebs down there yet do they? I'll have to give this some more thought.

    still_in74:

You are presuming that everyone else has it together. JW's or not, this is simply not the case. From the outside I appear very successful, inside, I often wonder how much better my life would be if I was run over by a bus.
Billy, you have it together as much as anyone else. That may not be too comforting but when you BELIEVE this fact it is LIBERATING and its the truth.

Remember many of us here are hurting right along side you. Come here and vent anytime. And dont forget that many of us here look forward to your well directed and factual posts.

Thanks for the reality check about "success"! Everything has really turned upside down going from a "JW success", to a "JW has-been", to a "I don't know what I was thinking or where I'm going now". But, that's part of moving on. I enjoy posting and I enjoy reading here as I have time, it's refreshing to break away from the bOrg agenda.

    S3RAPH1M:

Actually, I've thought about writing a book. I really should start writing about my life in the bOrg, reconnect with some of the people I've known and collect material. Do you think there would be a market for an Aposta-comedy novel?

    digderidoo:

Billy, there's a whole big world out there. We are all different and fit into this society in different ways. Your now a very different person than you were for all those years, you need to find the real you and explore!

IMO time is the greatest healer, in time you'll be okay.

I guess it's a matter of putting aside the whole "Satan's world", "wicked society", "sinfulness" mentality that I need to distance from. Evolution takes time. I'm getting more civilized and less "JW caveman" every week!

sacolton & St. John the Baptist Catholic Church:

Now that just REALLY cracked me up !!! Thanks!

Thanks again to y'all for the support and encouragement! I've been working lots lately. So, I've been low on my JWD hours... Please don't send hounders over to counsel me. I promise to do better in the future!

You've got a good start out of loser-dom---this thread is already 6 pages long!!

You aren't a loser until you are a quitter. Don't quit, you can't lose! (Unless you are at a casino-then all platitudes are OFF!)

I don't know all your situation, but you can decide for yourself what you want and then you can do it and face the consequences of it. You just have to face what the consequences are for any of your decisions. Some prices may be higher than you are willing to pay.

That is why life seems to be a big compromise-even for people you would never consider a loser. Tough choices require a tough person. But the problem is that even when you decide not to change, you are making a choice. So weigh your choices, even the seemingly neutral ones.

Then-don't look back. It hurts your neck and then you trip over your future.

Something is telling me that after this extremely complimentary six page thread you've progressed from feeling like a loser to now being just a little bit too full of yourself :-P .... but I'll go against my better instincts and say you're one of my favourite posters. Any thread or comment by B the X is guaranteed worth a look.

And let's face it, we're all losers on some level aren't we? :-)
