    Compare:

"The religious ties he had with his family change, but blood ties remain. The marriage relationship and normal family affections and dealings continue." From: http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/shunning/

    To:

7 A conflict of loyalties may arise when a close relative is disfellowshipped. For example, a sister named Anne [1] received a telephone call from her disfellowshipped mother. The mother wanted to visit Anne because she felt pained by her isolation from the family. Anne was deeply distressed by the plea and promised to reply by letter. Before writing, she reviewed Bible principles. (1 Cor. 5:11;2 John 9-11) Anne wrote and kindly reminded her mother that she had cut herself off from the family by her wrongdoing and unrepentant attitude. β€œThe only way you can relieve your pain is by returning to Jehovah,” Anne wrote.β€”Jas. 4:8.

    Straight fro the horse's mouth.

It might be as the ship goes down, the Watchtower leaders will act more and more rashly in desperation.

"Crimes" Anne's mother could have committed in order to deserve this treatment include: accepting a blood transfusion without repenting, smoking cigarettes, supporting a political party or letting a man who is not her husband stroke her nipple.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time to get a giant class action lawsuit going. This time, for ruining families. And the proof is in their literature. Check mate!

Wonder if there is a change to the "elder" book coming? Currently it spells out that committees can be formed for association with non family members that are df'd. It's sad......my family has been ripped apart too......

Many JWs are total hypocrites when it comes to shunning. If it disadvantages themselves personally they'll find a way round it. On the one hand if they don't care much for the person and stand to lose nothing they'll happily shun like there's no tomorrow. On the other hand if an inheritance is at stake or the DFed person is useful for getting employment, favours or money, then the JW will find a loophole or bend the rules alright, to suit themselves. Then if the same DFed person needs something down the road in return, these same JWs will often "rediscover their principles" and shunning will merrily recommence.
