by Goldiver inhello all, it is nice to have a forum for former jw's and see i wasn't the only one out there having serious doubts.
my parents got into it when i was about 4 years old.
my family was part of the granville ny congregation.. my dad in time became an elder.

Status quo? Or tell ttatt?
by ILoveTTATT insupposing i can pull off moving to the other city without the elders successfully finding me and forcing me to go to a jc or something.... should i ever tell my mom ttatt?
or should i let sleeping dogs lie?
it is extremely unlikely that dad will tell her ttatt... he prefers, 99% of the time, to not say anything rather than fight.

Some vs Many
by Londo111 init is interesting how the watchtower uses these two words.
for instance, the word some is often used to minimize, and many used to maximize.
and yet, it is so unspecific that some might be a greater quantity than many, yet the mind doesnt process these words this way.. for instance, if it is a failed prediction or a changed teaching, they might say, some believed... when it fact some means most or all, because this was food at the proper time coming from gods channel through the watchtower.

by jgnat inspinning off from another thread, have jesus' teachings been less than universally helpful to mankind?
how do we measure if a particular philosophy is helpful or harmful?.

Freedom From Atheism Foundation
by Seraphim23 inin the interests of being fair, i feel i have to point out this facebook page.
after one minute of reading, i located at least one lie regarding the tyt or young turks presenter cenk.
they said he was an atheist so i pointed out that this is not correct as he self identifies as an agnostic.

Why does the WT insist that the first five books of the bible were written by Moses?
by marmot inany biblical scholar worth his salt will tell you otherwise, and it's not as if this is a new concept.
as early as the 1700s people were noticing that the first books of the bible had numerous authors.
tell that to an elder, though, and you'll be booted for apostasy faster than you can say spanish inquisition.
