  Home Schooling

  what are your thoughts on home schooling?

  we had a few in one congregation i was in that practiced home schooling for their kids.

  i kina think home schooling is isolationists and for loons.

  Don't we all remember the isolation we felt, even when there were other children physically near us, everyday in school? Can you imagine how devastating the effect would be to have such severe social and physical isolation as one would encounter in a home schooling environment?

  School is at least partially designed to offer views and exposure not available in the home. Children need the extended social interaction. They need to work things out in unfamiliar environments. They need to be out there where mommy (no matter how good a teacher she might think she is) is not there to step in for them.

  I question the motives of parents that would lock up their kids in a home school. - and don't anyone fire off any trash about their kid getting out for 4H, or gym at the regular school. Parents that subject their kids to such oppression are so self-centered that they think the only useful opinion that their children should be seeing is their own. Either that, or they are so short of confidance in their children, that they think their children won't be able to handle the social side that all the other kids can.

  I surprised some folks that last time I posted this, so lets go again:

  When I was about to graduate High School, I asked the P.O. in my congregation to write a recommendation to college. He asked me what I wanted it to say. I told him, and he delivered the one-page written note the next Thrusday night. - This was in 1976.

  I went to college, some others followed (there were many of use in our age bracket), and no one ever said a damn word.

  Would some of us be better off as Witnesses?

  i have often wondered if many people would be better off if they stayed witnesses.

  some people i have known have really gone off the deep end after they left the watchtower.

  most all of my family have left now (not due to me as i was cut off from them for years) and many others i know who have left are now bitter atheists or have become pagans and worship stones or new ageers playing with crystals.

  Jerry, I'm gonna chime in with Dave on this one - tone and all. I'll tell you that the best thing I came away from the JWs with was a profound commitment to think for myself.

  But you wanna talk morality inside the religion? Let me say this: As a teenager growing up in Massachusetts, I saw more intrigue and bed-hopping than I have ever since. In fact, as a 19-year-old, I even had tristes with a MS' wife, and elder's wife, and even a substitute-CO's wife. (not proud of it, but I was 19) The stricter a religion purports to be, the more it teaches hypocracy - not morality.

  Could some still be better off inside? Maybe. But that is still not a good enough reason to stay in. I classify almost all of active, adult JWs in one of two groups: Those that want to be told black and white (victims?), and those that want to do the telling (victimizers?). Simply being willing to be a victim is no excuse for enabling those that victimize others as well.

  The Elder just walked out my door...

  i was having my usual bible study on thursday, with an elder from our local kingdom hall.. we are about half way through the knowledge book.. when i brought up the u.n. scandal and the silent lambs thing he just walked right out my door.. i am left wondering if he will come next week or if i am disfellowshipped even before i am baptized?

  Welcome Ezra!

  I'ld bet he'll be back. He'll be prepared (as best he can) and I think he'll have someone with him. Dollars to doughnuts he explains how Satan has lain down traps and your only mistake is bothering to read anything that is not directly produced from the Society.

  I've occasionally thought what great fun it would be to 'study' with a JW and see if I could get past their indoctrination with a few well-placed questions. But really, I would much rather they just stay away.

  if i dont go big questions are going to be asked!

  i dont agree with the rejecting passing of the bread and the wine... so what do you think i should do?

  I can't imagine actually attending. There isn't anything there of benefit. You'll get looked down on, condescended to, and you'll be bored stiff. The thought of actually allowing those close-minded, undereducated schlubs another opportunity to act all high and mighty turns my stomach in a knot. You're out! Its a blessing, accept it.

  Printing /Jehovah Ain't Paying!

  here are some choice phrases quoted from the letter (dated oct. 28) sent to congregations about changes in printing:.

  "saved us millions of dollars" , "additional savings" , "consolidated savings of money.

  and manpower", "less personel and more savings".

  I can't help but sneer everytime I read anything about the society making some move or other with their facilities. These kinds of moves take years to plan and execute.

  But I remember like it was last week, the elder asking the cong. if we were planning our finances until retirement, ... if we had our personal business planned out 5 or ten years into the future. "Have you no faith?" was his follow-up question. The folly of those that listened to that crap - I imagine many regret it more and more every day.

  So I ask, if they are actually far enough along to announce such a move, and I assume that they started planning for this years ago: Have you no faith?

  everone is in confusion

  i joined this site last week hoping to meet people that would steer me back to the organization.

  instead the people i have talked to her are all trying to tell me too see the light and get out of the organization.

  in my opinion, not that it matters, i really think that if a person had the truth deeply ingrained in them, they would never leave the truth.

  Everybody, I love this guy. Zol, come over here and let me give you a great big wet willy! Every now and then we need someone to show up here and be a shining example of just how destructive the WTS teachings are.

  But, frankly, the skeptic in me has doubts about your story. I would normally have expected a JW to have spouted some "but that is no reason to turn my back on Jehovah," or "we must wait on Jehovah to handle these things," or some other such tripe. If you are a JW, then you equate the society with God and his authority. I didn't see you do that.

  Also, you are an international student? You are living at a house that wouldn't let you attend meetings? You didn't know this before you went there?

  This smells a bit like a scam to me.

  Financial Help.

  hit my posting limit and am using my second account..... i don't know if anyone can help or not.. but i am in a desprate situation whereas i have to swallow my pride and seek out some help.. i am behind rent as well as my morgage ( i own a moble home on a lot rent).. need food as well.. phone needs to stay in service since i am deaf and need it as part my text communication for hopes of landing a better job.

  sister can email me to let me know if a employer calls, so i can drive over and find out what's up from there.. i work at wal-mart and alot of us have our hours cut to 20+ hrs a week, so this is hurting me fianacially.. job hunts is hard since i am deaf since most employers seems to prefer hiring a hearing person.. i know of a deaf friend who is unemployed and he went thru 20 job interviews in a month.

  none of them ever called or emailed him to say he got a job.. family can't help since they all have their own problems to deal with.. i can post all the info you need if anyone needs it, such as my landlord's address and my morgage address if anyone wants to mail a check directly to them.

  Yiz,

  Come on now, you have got to try harder than that. Just to be fair, I did go back and reread your posts on your first thread. Nope, nary a hint of financial troubles - just like all the others.

  How is your tone supposed to be, you ask? I can tell you right now, that if I was on the verge of being tossed into the street, good sense of hearing or not, I would not have had time to be posting friendly little notes on the internet. Anything I did would be firmly centered around attacking the problem: earning money, talking with creditors, soliciting social services ... that stuff.

  But I'll tell you what. I'm pretty sure the scriptures day something about donations. Something to do with giving and receiving ten-fold. So, you need a couple hundred bucks? Why don't you send me a cool crisp twenty, and then trust in God?
