But....I still don't know if you're a man or woman, Zep?

when i was doing a bible study... well... when i read "you can live forever in a paradise on earth" (goofy title) with a witness anyhow....i cant really call it a study.. anyway, he mentioned to me that there was a big convention get together sort of thing coming up and said i should come along...so i sort of said i might and left it at that!.
i was under the impression that it was just another big church meeting, heaps of people, i could just slip in up the back and have a look nice and easy....well..... it was a sunday, and i was a bit hungover...and on the spur of the moment i decided to go have a peek.. so i get in there wearing casual clothes, blue jeans with a hole in the left knee that had been badly stitched over...walk through the car park, notice this mafioso type guy (probably an elder) looking at me sort of strange... keep walking...come to the entrance and this witnees greets me...i say i've just come to a have a look if thats alright.....(couple of people looking at me...no big deal).......he says ok and leads me to a seat in the stadium.......well, the seating arrangments in the main stadium were such that anyone walking in has to walk along a 50 metre walkway in full veiw of about 2000 odd people (iwas about 2hrs late btw, since there was no way i was going to a meeting that went all day)...so i'm walking in wearing utra casual, scruffy clothes plus hungover, into stadium in full view of all these silent witnesses who are listening to some guy talk....it was full on... noticed a fair few people looking straight at me like i'm from planet x.. oh well, who cares, no big deal, i sit down and lay back and listen after the guy finally finds me a seat...... they were just finishing up a little dramatisation of why you should be careful about what you watch on tv....so anyway, that finishes and the speaker announces whats next on the card......its a lecture, a talk on "how you dress and what you wear reflects your attitude", i could feel the spotlight fall right on me...."oh sh't, i got to get outa here" i think.....so get up and walk back out in full view of all these well dressed witnesses, back along the walkway and out!.
it was a blow out for sure!....
Hey, Zep,
Your post was a flashback to the '60s for me, and what a trip!!!
I would imagine you were the basis for quite a few conversations on how teenagers were not supposed to dress - ever!

ok, since it was so easy to get on here i'm assuming that this place is also over run by wts critics...but anyway!.
i've read a plenty of wt mags and got sucked in enough by the whole thing to go to a few meetings and do a bible study( which i wouldn't really call a study, since we just read one of their books).i soon broke of the whole thing and didn't even read another mag for about 6 years...6 months ago i wandered into h20 out of curiosity and ended up reading up on the arguments against the wts.. i have a simple question, and its probably very naive to ask this...but why is wts so afraid of debate?...there are plenty of sites arguing against the wts...but none for, apart the official site which doesn't address the issues raised by so called "apostates" anyway.. if the wt has the the truth why dont they just refute the the arguments against them instead of shutting up shop and labelling anyone who questions them an "apostate?
" or from satan or something.. i'm really beginning to think that all this wt business is just waste of time, that if i were to go to kh and ask questions that i have, i'm more likely to be labelled a trouble making agent of satan rather than be taken at face value as someone with serious questions.
Hey,
Maxee and Dubby helped me find the site - it's Geocities, Research on the Watchtower, Part 1 The court case was in the '50s and involved testimony given by F. Franz and Covington, attorney.
Well worth the visit. I highly recommend this site to anyone just looking for information. I must go back - it's huge!!!
someone out there has a sence of humour.. http://www.geocities.com/athens/atrium/4914/beliefsfaq2.html.
Dear Sweet Maxee,
Thank you so much. I have just spent 3 hours reading at Geocities. Research on the Watchtower, Part 1 is a great place. I highly recommend it to everyone - but bring a big cup of coffee - not to keep awake (for it's very enlighting) but because your mind goes kinda numb from the sunshine!
Thank you for your quick response. I am forever remembering the thought or argument - but never the place.

Hey, Thorn,
That is the Walsh case, however I read Fred Franz Q&A, which basically was the same, but did not have the army section in it.
On Witnet, they did a fine job of discussing it, but I have a different opinion on their conclusion. I can't quite grasp their reasoning.
Maxee - where is the jw research link?
I really didn't understand that Unity is put above Bible Truth. Doesn't that somehow smack against the Truth of the Bible? We should go along with Biblical error for the sake of unity?
Disfellowshipped because someone disturbed the Unity - even if they were right.
Is that what happened to that brother who did the research on the 607 (supposed) error? Could he have been right and disfellowshipped because his light was ahead of the GB's light? This is logical - but only if you want thinking people who may disagree to be silent - for as long as you want them to be silent.
The "solid witnesses" said yes. But, excuse me, isn't that what most other churches do? Just "go along?"
I came into the Truth because I thought it was the Truth. I didn't come into the Unity movement. I came in in the '60's - no one was looking for unity during those years!
I do not agree with disfellowshipping persons because they disagree and speak about it. Oh, I forgot, there's new light now, disagreeable Christians will now "disassociate themselves."
Unity above Truth.
i'm searching for a site that compares various bible versions with our nwt?
the only one i've found compares 108 different versions including nwt.
if anyone knows of a site better than this one please provide the link.
Hey, guys!
Thanks for the lead. Simon, what is that program you got from Amazon? I saw it advertised one time, then never could find it again.
I've been wondering why no new topics in Bible Discussion area. Perhaps Friend made us gunshy?
Perhaps we could all discuss some things - keeping in mind everyone's (mostly including mine) limitations on the art of debating?
To summerize Simon's English style: "That would be lovely."
