What's up with bookstudy
by Searching1 intook the laptop to bookstudy this week so we could check out the site together.
our good brother martini has been posting for some time and has been telling us about this web site where he can say the most outrageous things and people will just basically nod their heads in agreement and say right on, brother.. like once he said, i prefer to do it (preaching) with sporadic and extemporaneous praise in deed, word, poetry and song.
it was totally tongue-in-cheek, but nobody picked up on it.

Rules and Regulations
by Simon inok, it seems like we need to start setting up some rules and regulations as 'common sense' doesn;t seem to work for everyone.. rule 1. no personal attacks / insults.
feel free to submit any rules (or guidelines) that you think would help.

Dear Andyman,
Thanks for coming forward and saying what I couldn't think of politely how to say. And I'm not on pain medication anymore - so my polite obsenities won't fly anymore.
To my knowledge, I'm the only one until recently who has used a curse word here - I apologize - my redneck background is strong.
Recently, several posts have used a lot of cursing, and unnecessarily so - just as in my usage. Perhaps it's time I, and others, stop in case we make others uncomfortable. Myself, I forget others who I don't know might be reading our posts. I'll have to resort to Southern Redneck, which is harder on the ears that a good old curse word - but more accepted.
"Paranoia strikes deep" is part of an old rock song famous in 60's. Keeping in mind that's my generation (late 60's, thank you), there's a couple of ways to look at the most outspoken of the forum's newcomers, particularily since H20 posted a notice that this forum was outspoken on things which are questionable in light of being Witnesses.
1. Friend is an extremely articulate, knowledgeable, person. He keeps me on alert, and is good in discussion, particularily when I can storm away, and come back later with a better response than "Oh, yeah????" He won't tell us a thing about himself, (I've asked) but is very well versed in law, Watchtower, and what the Society thinks.
Friend's posts have made me qualify my answers, and even if he never wins me over - I've still worked hard to justify my position, or had to acknowledge his. He's like the teacher who calls you ignorant until you prove you know what you're talking about. He's good in argument, real good.
2. And Url? Well, on the surface, he's just the other end of the spectrum of Friend.
But your statement, referring to Url: "They come in and try to disrupt things because the "thinking" process going on isn't the same as theirs."
Both visited here within a week of each other.
Both trying to disrupt, or change, our thinking.
Just coming from opposite ends of the spectrum. How odd. Thanks, Simon, for this Topic, it's better than going to a Moderator.

Kissing Hanks Ass

What Parallel are you referring to? Hank, Karl, or the poor ol' plain weiner?
Leaving the weiner out of the picture (I'm sure you males are cringing now), those poor people at the door don't make a lot of sense to someone not familiar with that kind of logic.
For 30 years, I could see how they could come to the conclusions they had (except Mary's fingers in her ears).
Your choice of wording could be improved, however.
By our postings you can see that we're all ages, sexes, nationalities, and even different religious views. It was funny!!! -

Dear Simon,
What snazzy new features?
Damn, boy, I've barely figured out these and you want to go and change them?
"I'm not going to buy any more music until they assure me that they are not going to change the format again. Cassettes? CD's? No thank you - I'm staying with my 8-Track player for now.

Dear Red Horse,
Oh, yeah? (pain medication deadens the brain from any intelligent combacks). I'll be better soon.
If you like those kinds of movies, how did you like "WOLF" with Michelle Phieffer and Jack Nicholson? I loved it. It had a moral, however, Wolves are cooler than humans.

WHY does God fail to...
by Martini in...attain unanimous support from his creation of free moral agents?
from the majority at least.. apparently according to the wt interpretation of god's own book...a prominent spirit creature who made himself satan became unsatisfied and left god.later untold numbers would join the devil.. now the only solution for the future of these 'rebels' would be for god to destroy them.. then the very first human creatures apparently also felt unsatisfied and withdrew from god.they got destroyed.. later god had to confuse the language of all humans because they were unanimously opposed to god.
those people too are history.. then god had an ark built because all flesh had left god's way except for a handful of people.. evidently god was not expecting any great number to actually join noah, otherwise god would have had noah build several arks!

Well, thank you, Friend,
I had just given you a complement on "qualifying our wording" and you go and disqualify yourself.
You said that some friends voted. You did not qualify what type of voting they were voting on.
That's not playing fair - given the tone of the questions from readers discussion - I would naturally assume that we were talking about national voting. I assumed wrong - but you were ambiguious in your wording - and you have counseled me of that very transaction before.
And, yes, if JW's are voting somewhere on national elections - I sure would like to know where. You had told Frenchy to produce some evidence - where's yours.
As for the matter of producing evidence of financial matters, you want Frenchy to produce evidence for your discussion that contributions are down. I did not ask him - he did not make the statement. You made the statement, and I am asking for your evidence. Seems logical.
The point of double payment is not absurd, in my ignorant opinion. I have respectfully argued this point with my PO, and he finally said, "That's what the Society said to do - and that's what we should do."
You say, and rightly so, that some publishers do not donate at all. That is their right and circumstances, just as the KM article brought out. Are you suggesting that those who do pay are covering the cost for those who don't pay? Well, then the Society should spell it out for us so we can make up our own minds.
I just felt it was proper for the publisher to take out of the solicited donations from strangers the cost of the magazines the publisher had already donated for. Still makes sense to me. Rather like that often quoted thought, "Let each one do what his heart determines." How can we determine if we do not know?
Why is this not done?
BTW, your educational background and job description was missing from your post. Are you going to share with us so that we can then say, "Ah, he's a lawyer, he knows about this stuff." Or, "Ah, he's a paralegal with many years of experience, he's knows probably more than most lawyers."
Please enlighten us.

Frenchy,

Dear Friend and SC:
Being on pain medication produces useless thoughts as this old joke:
St. Peter was ushering some newcomers around Heaven explaining the set up and such. There was a long corridor with many closed doors with names such as Catholics, Baptists, Anglican, etc. on them. He explained that it helped new ones to be with ones like themselves.
They passed a door with no name on it. Newcomer asked who was in that room and why no name?
"Ssshhhh, Those are Jehovah's Witnesses - and they think they're the only ones here."
Just a little pain medication humor injected here!
