As much as I dislike the Watchtower, I too am very thankful that my crazy mother decided not to join some other even worse wack job.

Maybe it could be worse...
by Olig inso i just watched a documentary on netflix called "the end of the world cult" about some geezer named wayne bent (self proclaimed as michael travesser).
some of the stuff this guy says is absolutely unbelievable, and made me seriously think that there are some god awful cults out there, and made me think my time in the jw's (however boring and restrictive) wasn't all so bad... has anyone else seen this?
does anyone have any recommendations on other documentaries of the like??

I just want to add to what smiddy3 said, don't divulge too much information. There are some very off people out there. Shortly after I had left the JWs, another former witness was trying to meet up with me. My dad was never a JW, and one thing he taught me growing up is to find out what a person's motives are, what do they really want. Anyways I decided to ask this guy why he was no longer a witness, and he told me that he was disfellowshipped, and I asked him if he didn't mind sharing with me why he was. Not to go into too many details, but he was disfellowshipped because he was involved with NAMBLA. I had no idea what that was, and when I check into it further, I decided there was no way I was going to allow someone like him around my young sons.

Back pain is no fun and royally sucks big time. This is something I have had issues for a long time myself. Mine was so bad that I ended up having to go in and have back surgery to repair some damage that was done by an epidural. After my back surgery, I became 2 inches shorter.

For everyone who wakes up, there is a certain moment, or incident that causes everything to click. There is nothing one person can do or say that will cause this, at least at that moment. You know where he stands at the moment, don't push the matter, because that could backfire. Most importantly live life, and allow your children to experience a normal childhood. Every child is different in what they want to do in life. Some would be sports, electronics, education, or a whole slew of other things.
My case was different than yours, my husband and I were both brought up in the JW world when we were four years of age. My husband was first in realizing what the JWs really are, while I still was mentally and physically in. He waited on me, and I had that moment of clarity that caused me to realize it as well. He never tried to prove to me that the Watchtower was wrong, and even if he tried I would not have believed him. But when I did finally have that moment, it was like a ton of bricks fell on me.
Earlier when I mentioned electronics and education, the electronics I was referring to was video games. When my boys were younger I was very strict on the types of games they were not allowed to play, and that was no M rated games. Anyways what that led to was my boys (2 years apart in age) had developed a very close relationship, and even to this day, they are best friends and have a lot of the same friends (all good kids). Video games ended up causing my youngest to develop an interest in foreign language. In high school, he took 3 years of French, and now in college, he is in his third and final year in Japanese, this is his minor.

I had a serious issue inside, but I wasn't given the luxury of staying home. My mom forced me to go, at the time I was living at home and had to abide by her rules. Thinking back on it, that's why I traveled so much before I was married.

The awful treatment of my disfellowshipped cousin still continues
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmy cousin was disfellowshipped twenty years ago when he was 18 years old.
he admitted to the congregation elders that he was fornicating with his ''wordly'' girlfriend.
the elders were following him and hiding in their cars to see what he was up to.

There was an incident that really struck me when I was an active witness, even then I couldn't understand why the JWs do what they do. When I was an active witness, one of my friends had gotten married. Her mother was disfellowshipped, but regardless her mom paid for the whole wedding and reception. It was a very formal wedding and extravagant reception. My friend had a total of 10 people in her wedding party, including the groom, and bride, and over 500 people in attendance. All the guys were wearing tuxedos, and the bridesmaids were all wearing beautiful black silk gowns. Her mother also paid for her daughter's two-week honeymoon, which was in Cancun, and also paid for the round trip ticket, and the limo ride to the airport (a little over an hour ride). What thanks did she get for giving her daughter and son-in-law such a grand gift? Her daughter told her not to come to the wedding or reception. Personally, if it were me, I would have let the ungrateful child figure out how to pay for that all on her own.

Introduction
by Cerise inhello i am relatively new, reading a lot of experiences here for a while.
i’m born in and baptized but i moved away from small town to a new congregation in big city so i have a good opportunity to fade now.

I can give you one little piece of advice if you are trying to fade, make sure all and any research is not in the main living section of your home, where visitors can see it. When I was trying to fade, was not successful in this. My brother-in-law stopped by my home. I thought I had everything all covered up, but low and behold, he spotted one little picture of the pyramid that is close to Russel's grave and really got up in our (my husband and I) business. My husband and him (his own brother) don't get along, and hubby is easily riled up by his brother, he knows how to push my husband's buttons. Anyways keep all research in another room that any current witness or guest never go in.

Are You Horrifed if Someone Goes Into a “Massage Parlor”?
by minimus inyesterday, robert kraft, the owner of the new england patriots, got busted for getting a massage and more.
they say there is another more high profile person who also got busted.. does this stuff upset you that some men have gone into a massage parlor for possibly more than a massage?

Personally what a person does with their own time, as long as it is not harming another person is their own business, and doesn't bother me.

Did you know most jehovah witnesses don’t even follow their own rules?
by Walrus in(before you read anything i was born into this religion and am just counting down the days until i can leave) so i made one other post before because i signed up thinking that this was just a one time venting thing for me and everyone that replied on my last post was super helpful and i thank you if you’re reading this one but shit.
i’ve never released this much emotion especially to strangers, not even with my own parents and with you guys i feel like i can say anything about how i feel and it’s all good because you all feel the same as i do.
but anyway i just got into some shit with my mom and step dad.

Thanks, newsheep, you gave me an idea. Talking about famous JWs, here is a link to those who are well-known JWs, it also tells if they are still active or not. There are a few professional sports players in there as well.
