Jerusalem's destruction.....
by Unstuck inhello all - so me and stuckinarut2 are at the state library proving to ourselves that wt has it all wrong re: 607. i've read at length jwfacts, jwsurvey and crisis of conscience that all go into the subject and i've just downloaded gentile times reconsidered.. while it is fabulous to have someone else compile all the research and evidence for you, it is quite another to see it in print for yourself - and so, here we are.. while we wait for our array of books i couldn't help but share with you how the state library has catalogued jewish history - 586 bc to 70 ad.
no mention of 607 as a key date as far as the library's catalogue is concerned!!
evidence before we have our books!!.

Huffington Post: When Is A Religion 'Extremist'? [Food for thought!]
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/when-is-a-religion-extremist_us_590de8e3e4b046ea176aeb98.
tim rymel, m.ed.. governments who support “religious freedom” over the equal human rights and dignity of others condone, and even endorse discrimination.. 05/06/2017 11:27 am et | photo – flickr/ justin kern .
government endorsement of any religious ideology creates religious extremism.

The JW claim is that EXTREMISM = VIOLENCE. They are NOT violent, therefore they are NOT extremist. This is a bit of a straw man argument since they are extremist in their thinking, they just outsource the violent application of their theology.
However, while I don't think it actually will, there is nothing to stop that from changing in a heartbeat. They are always re-interpreting and "refining" their theology, so what if one day they decide they have "new light" - Jehovah no longer requires they outsource vengeance to Him, he is asking them to exact vengeance themselves, in His behalf, with His authorisation. Would they all wake up at that point? Or would some keep following the lead of the slave and accept this new direction?
The fact that it would not be in their interests to do so would stop them ever making that change one would hope, but theoretically.....

How did we get from singular ha-Elohim (God) to plural ha-Elohim (judges)?
by I_love_Jeff inread exodus 22:6-8
jps tanakh : 6 when a man gives money or goods to another for safekeeping, and they are stolen from the man’s house if the thief is caught, he shall pay double; 7 if the thief is not caught, the owner of the house shall come near (נקרב) to god (האלהים) that he has not laid hands on the other’s property.
8 in all charges of misappropriation pertaining to an ox, an ***, a sheep, a garment, or any other loss, whereof one party alleges, “this is it” the case of both parties shall come before god (האלהים): he whom god (אלהים ) declares guilty (ַיְר ִשי ֻףן) shall pay double to the other.

Fascinating thread. Thanks for starting it @1_Love_Jeff. And thanks for your contribution @David_Jay. Always really interesting to hear your well informed and in depth comments from the Jewish perspective on things.

Jonah Letter
by Coded Logic indear brothers and sisters,.
it has come to our attention that many in our ministry are encountering individuals who question the accuracy of the bible on scientific grounds.
for example, they may ask questions such as, how does a snake talk when it has no vocal chords or mouth and lip muscles?

Brilliant - you've just taken apologetics to a whole new level... actually, maybe not! That how crazy it all is....

Not to mention this false caption - there was no such things as the GB until the 70's. From 1919-1971 Jehovah's direction was given "through the office of the President." See 1943 Yearbook.

What do You Think About Hybrid and Electric Cars?
by Village Idiot inbattery technology has been making leaps and bounds in affordability and energy output throughout the past decade.
while pure electric cars currently have limited range, the near future holds prospects for longer ranges.
hybrids, and recently plug in hybrids, have a mileage of up to 50 mpg* giving them a range of 500 miles from a ten gallon gas tank.

I've driven hybrids (Toyota & Lexus) for the last 7 years and love them. For me it's simple: The economy of a diesel but without the rattle & noise. They are so smooth and quiet.

Toxic Person?
by stuckinarut2 ini read a fantastic quote that applies to the way the society treats those who choose to leave...:.
"when a toxic person can no longer control you, they will try and control how others see you".
just wanted to share....

Great quote. No doubt why the org tries to demonise apostates as "mentally diseased" and "wickedly deceptive"

Baptism as a Symbol of Dedication - Anther unbiblical doctrine of men
by doubtfull1799 ini'm not sure if this has been discussed before - i did a brief search and couldn't find anything on this particular aspect.. for those atheists who believe it is all nonsense anyway, feel free to ignore this post.
i happen to be of that same persuasion but i still enjoy discussing it on a philosophical level.
its funny how you may have left because of the more "out there" doctrines and chronology etc not making sense and you come to see that they are going "beef the things written", but the longer you're out and the more you think about your old beliefs, even the most common basic or "fundamental" doctrines are also "going beyond the things written.. baptism as a symbol of dedication is a case in point.

Baptism as a symbol of dedication is a case in point. I cannot find any scriptural support for this idea at all. Every Biblical mention of baptism (by water) is as a symbol of repentance, or acceptance/belief - it has nothing to do with making a vow or dedication. I checked the Insight Book & Reasoning Book entries on Baptism and they confirm as much. So how on earth did we all come to accept such an unbiblical proposition as "truth?" Well indoctrination obviously. But it continues to amaze me how blind I was to it, how manipulated my thinking was, how far the twisting of scripture went....
And this false doctrine is used against us when we wake up - when we leave we are accused denying our baptism because we are breaking our dedication vow. But that is a completely unscriptural accusation as Baptism is not a symbol of any such vow. That is completely a Watchtower Society construct. And of course we know why - THEY want us to dedicate ourselves to do God's will, at least His will as they interpret it for, which really amounts to THEY'RE will. Another tool in their high control methodology.

JW news release and deception - The "High-Profile Case" in Russia
by jwleaks ini found this interesting bit of news release propaganda by the jws on their website dated april 5, 2017.. "russia's supreme court begins high-profile case against jehovah's witnesses".
https://www.jw.org/en/news/releases/by-region/russia/supreme-court-begins-case-against-jehovahs-witnesses/.
my interest was piqued by the jw claim that the court hearing is a "high-profile case".
