Jeepers! I thought a major teaching had flown right over my head. My father dragged us into JWs in 1972, so we didn't learn the old 3-phase GT thing.

by SeekingTheRealTruth inam i the only one that never heard this before?
on pg 3 par 3 of july 15 2013 watchtower it says "for a number of years, we thought that the great tribulation began in 1914 with world war i and that "those days were cut short" by jehovah in 1918 when the war ended so that the remnant would have the opportunity to preach the good news to all nations.
" after the completion of that preaching work, satans empire would be destroyed.

Whatever happened to the meaty stuff the FDS used to serve up? Remember the public talk, "The Parts of the Temple and their Prophetic Significance?" Of course, probably most of that has changed.

Your worst convention experience.

Oh gosh, Montreal 1978, tent/trailer city. Having to walk a quarter of a mile to use the bathroom, ice cold showers (not exaggerating), hot, dusty, crowded. Ex-hubby and I were sharing a pickup-truck camper with another couple. All the trailers and campers were parked around the perimeter 4 feet apart.
The camper next to us had to recharge their battery every evening, and their exhaust pipe was pointed right at our window. The family in the camper consisted of an unbelieving husband, two screechy kids, and a long-suffering JW wife. Every evening the unhappy husband took his wrath out on the wife using every nasty word you can imagine, and a few you can't.
On top of everything, I developed a bladder infection on the trip to Montreal and was sick, sick, sick. It was a 5-day international assembly in umpteen languages with tens of thousands of people milling around (I think top attendance was around 80,000) so it was sheer luck if you ever connected with your family or someone from your own congregation.
Of course, we had to do field service. Our "territory" included an apartment building in which lived a very vocal, JW-hating lady who screamed at us in French as we went to every door.
Oh yeah, memories are made of this.

New here, well, sort of...
by L3G inbeen lurking here for years but finally decided to come out, at least partially.
of all things, the post of 'bats in the belfry' re: the supposed break up of gb member geoffrey jackson and his cute (ex-?
) fiancee a few days ago spurred me to do so.

So, Was It Just "Luck" Or Did "Jehovah" Intervene At Times For You?
by minimus ini know witnesses believe that miracles were done away with other "gifts" after the apostles died but every so often they suggest god produced a miracle.. did you believe that jehovah god saved you out of a bad situation?
did you accept that god's angel help you out?.

The tipping point in my gradual awakening was realizing that Jehovah either doesn't exist or doesn't help us one damn bit.
As a 17-year-old girl I was starting to get some male attention, so I prayed fervently (on my knees, in tears) that Jehovah help me to find the right marriage mate.
A man I knew returned from Bethel a couple of months later and started hanging around with my family. I didn't really pay any attention to him until one day, to my absolute shock, he proposed. Thinking this was Jehovah's direction I accepted.
Flash forward 27 years. I'm miserable. The man is a sexual fiend who has raped me frequently over the course of our marriage and generally made my life miserable in a zillion different ways. I stayed with him because I believed it was Jehovah's will for us to be together and it would work out well in the end.
One day I had an epiphany. In my childish faith I had asked Jehovah for the proverbial egg and had been handed a scorpion instead. Malicious sadist.
If Jehovah existed but would not intervene in the way I expected why didn't he lovingly let me know? Why would he spit on my faith in him by allowing me to marry a monster and suffer for decades? If he didn't exist then why the heck was I wasting my time in a bad marriage and a stupid religion?
No matter what the answer was to those questions I was in a lose-lose situation and needed to cut my losses. My husband picked up on my changing attitude and in short order I realized I was in danger and escaped.
