North Korea may be the biggest threat to world peace at this time. They must not be allowed to have viable nuclear weapons. How do you stop them?
Peacefully? I think only China can.
with the chances of war breaking out on the korean peninsula rapidly rising, i wonder if jehovah will save his people in seoul if kim jong-un decides to nukes it?
or will their deaths just be written off by the governing body's writing department as another case of "time and unforeseen occurrence"?.
while you might think that i'm being flippant or trivial here, i'm being quite serious.

my congregation had around 25 more people at the memorial last night than last year, and the two other congregations i have family in all experienced a similar increase in about 25 more people present.
umm, i'm surprised, having thought this year would see a memorial decline again.
and i'm kind of disappointed..
JWFacts: This year I expect the growth to be more than that, probably more than 2%.
I agree. JWs are buzzing with excitement over their perceived current end-of-world events.
i went with my husband tonight for the first time.
it was pretty appalling how they lied about the 144k and everyone else.
then passing the wine and bread for nothing.
Drearyweather: I am currently discussing this with a family member
Watchtower has learned enough from over a century of failed doctrines and prophecies to not show assertiveness in their predictions. However, the historical record reveals many of their concrete claims that never came true. Here's one such example:
________________
Awake! 1961 Feb 22 pp.5,7,8
"But then it also speaks of a group of people preaching about the
righteous kingdom of God, a war of God against all wickedness, followed
by a paradise earth without death - all to be realised in the twentieth
century. ...
That now-operating kingdom in heaven will, within the twentieth century, cleanse the entire earth of wickedness. ...
Revelation 16:16 calls it the "war of the great day of God the
Almighty," Armageddon. This war will come in the twentieth century. It
will come right on schedule, as have the wars, food shortages,
earthquakes and other events foretold. This generation will see its
fulfillment."

i salute you.
many of you, like me, are probably under enormous emotional pressure, whether from a lingering false sense of guilt from your indoctrination, whether from "invitations," and assumptions that you'll naturally be coming, or whether from outright emotional blackmail, even begging and pleading.
i am thinking of you whoever you are, all of you, even though i don't know you in person.
Thank you doubtful1799. This will be my first year not attending. My family will surely be extremely shocked and hurt, and I expect a renewed dose of shunning in the next few days. (I'm not DF, so treatment I get from family varies from day to day)
this is the kind of government you are supporting.. over 100 gay men have been sent to concentration camps for homosexuals in chechnya and three people have been killed.. stop supporting fascism.. if you support the russia jw ban, what other thoughts and beliefs are you ok with policing?.
if you support the jw russia ban, have you read george orwell's 1984?
don't you realize you are advocating for literal fascism when you support the banning of a belief system?
Socialism = mid point between the two extremes (the middle ground)
Not to hijack the thread, but I'd argue that there's a blurred line between Communism and pure Socialism. Aren't the controllers/owners of all property, business and/or residential, in a purely Marxist state for all intents and purposes the state itself?
the superstar of all scriptures.
for god so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.. .
but i just learned something about it.. i try to look at different translations of the bible and the lexham english bible words it a bit different.... 16 for in this way god loved the world, so that he gave his one and only son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.
Interesting NikL. I too always thought it was "loved soooooo much"

What are the chances this was written by Ray Franz in his own conscientious attempt to soften the harshness?

besides the possibility that the theocratic ministry school was dropped to avoid the word 'school' appearing any longer for a.r.c child abuse reasons, the introduction of the new clam meetings for midweek has been one of the several main factors making me develop a repulsion for the jw.org religion.. okay, the watchtower study is fairly mickey mouse these days too, but the midweek meetings are truly awful and contribute to me feeling physically and emotionally ill, which i documented in my first post on here.. i'm quite a well-educated person and my job involves a lot of linguistic skill, thinking, communication, analysis, research, interpretation and presentation.
the clam workbook is patronising and like something even school kids would tire of.. after a long day at work, i don't like the idea of dragging myself off to a midweek meeting in the cold dark nights let alone any other time of the year, but it'd be far better if it was for more solid spiritual food.
somehow the meetings i grew up with as a child were more interesting.
I agree 100%. There is absolutely no room for individual contributions to the content of the meeting. It's all just an exercise in repeating what is written.
