  i was sitting here one day, after reading a confusing conversation that was going on on one of the jw only sites, actually feeling sorry for jws in certain situations.

  since i have found love , i have a whole different outlook on life, and my heart goes out to those who feel that they have to carry the heavy yolk of the wts.

  some jws are stuck not being able to date or remarry because their spouses had left and divorced them and then refused to see them ever again.

  And lots of couples do exactly what has been suggested. There was a couple in our congregation who divorced. The ex-husband became a major apostate protestor in Brooklyn (which was, needless to say, a huge embarrassment to his ex-wife), but he never "committed adultery" or remarried.

  She met someone else--an elder from a different congregation--and they fell in love. They bit the bullet and got married. They were both disfellowshipped, but were reinstated as soon as the proscribed "repentance period" was completed.

  Totally ridiculous, but they thought they were following "God's" rules.

  Watch your language boy/girl

  when we were in the org, we had to watch our language, and speak correctly and never swear.

  people knew we were jw's just by the way we dressed, but also by the way we talked.

  Not very often, but when I do, people listen. They KNOW I'm really ticked if I use cuss words, and it gets their attention...mainly because I don't generally use them.

  Who plays a musical instrument?

  everybody likes music, but i don't know many people who play an instrument.

  years ago, every house had a piano, and just about everybody in the house played the piano, but not today.

  we all know that farkel is an excellent pianist, and i do enjoy listening to his music.. does any of you play a musical instrument?

  Got our "reactivation call" last night

  brother elder who used to be one of our best friends called out of the blue last night after about six years.

  i answered the phone.

  he identified himself and asked how i was then asked for hubby.

  It's only been 17 years for me without any contact from the elders at all. Somehow, I would be very surprised if they even bothered to contact me this time around.

  Hmmm, was this rule around back in the 1980s???

  I don't know about the 1980s. My husband was granted disability in the early 90s, and my daughter was granted disability in the mid-90s, so I'm not sure if this ruling has been in place prior to that time.

  I would say, though, that it would be worth your while to check it out.

  Yes I was taken off when I started working full time at the age of 19 and I lost my SSI pretty soon after my first paycheck. I haven't been back on SSI since then. Looks like I will be back on it soon.

  Whoa! This isn't right!! According to SSI rules, you have a 9-month trial period to try working full-time. If anything happens during that period so that you can't continue working, you can just get right back on SSI.

  If they didn't explain this to you, I think you have a major gripe against the Social Worker assigned to you for the SSI program. If they took you off SSI and didn't explain your rights to a trial work period, you may be able to get some back compensation, and they should just reinstate your benefits.

  If necessary, check with a lawyer who deals with SSI cases. They generally won't charge for an initial consultation, and if they feel that your rights have been violated, they will fight the case for you for a percentage of whatever is recovered.

  Pioneering---Did It Make A Difference In Your Life

  many of us pioneered.

  some here pioneered as "vacation", "temporary", "auxillary", "regular" or even "special" roles.

  nearly everyone was expected to pioneer, if you were to stay in the good graces of the congregation.

  Did it make a difference in my life? Yes, it certainly did. It kept me in a minimum wage job with almost no benefits because they would allow me to work part-time so that I could pioneer.

  It pushed my psyche to the limit, since I have always been a shy person, and it was absolute HELL to have to perform for 5 hours a day as a literature salesperson (yes, I pioneered when the quota was 100 hours a month).

  It allowed me to wreck my health and gave me the opportunity to spend a month in the hospital, three months totally out of work, and years trying to recover from an illness that was constantly exacerbated by stress.

  Yes, quite a difference, I would say.

  My brother in law is going to take me to Anderson where the Social Security Office is located which is a 45 min drive from here and apply for SSI since that's what I originally had lived on when I was at Center on Deafness.

  If you have already qualified for SSI in the past, it should be fairly easy for you to get back on. Were you taken off SSI because you were working steadily for some length of time?

  Both my husband and daughter are disabled and on SSI, and I know that they allow you a certain amount of time to try working, and if it doesn't work out, you can just get right back on the program without re-applying. Please check into this.

  Also, being on SSI, you will be able to attend college or some other job-training situation at no cost to you. Also, many times employees are given incentives for hiring a disabled person, and you may find that a job is available for you under that program.

  The doublespeak in that intereview was appalling. I noticed how careful J.R. Brown was to not directly answer any of the questions. As an example, when responding to the question concerning prophetic dates for the end of the world, Mr. Brown emphasized that the JWs have never stated the "day and the hour," which is true; however, he totally ignored the fact that the Society has repeatedly mentioned specific "years" and statement such as "everything will occur before the end of the 20th century."

  Then, too, I just love the "conscience" issues he remarks on. Why doesn't he also state that any JW who doesn't exercise his or her conscience in the JW-proscribed manner concerning voting, or saluting the flag, or taking a blood transfusion is quite likely to be disfellowshipped. Yes, they make a conscience decision, but there is a figurative "loaded gun" pointed directly at them.

  I know of a guy (not gay but guy - better be carefull with the letters here ....) who had not been at meetings for 10 years or so, not since he was a teenager, but then started attending because he wanted to "get back". Because he was co-habiting with a girl, he was then df'ed. Not the best of welcomes, perhaps ............

  We experienced this irony, also. Both my husband and I had been inactive for awhile. He was totally inactive, and I was sporadic.

  During this period of time, I repeatedly asked for help for both myself and my husband, with no response. Then, we finally decided to put forth a major effect to re-activate ourselves, and were studying again and attending most meetings.

  However, my husband had started smoking again during his 10+ inactive years, and he was unable to meet their 30-day deadline for quitting, so he was disfellowshipped within months of his trying to go back.

  This whole situation pushed ME over the edge, and I was so disgusted I never went back. Now I know too much and would never consider going back again. It has been about 18 years now, and no elder has ever visited me during this time. I hope that they don't try doing anything at this point in time.
