The packages will arrive today... What do you think will happen?
by Faithful Witness ini have decided that ignoring my niece and nephew during the holidays, is the most unloving thing i could possibly do.
they stopped celebrating christmas and birthdays, after my sister began studying with jw's about 6-7 years ago.
we did not celebrate either, until 3 years ago, when my son was 2 and my daughter was 4, and we'd figured out that the jw's are wrong about this decision.

Sounds lke they have accepted them before, so they will probably accept them again, but, again, without acknowledgment. You are doing the right thing for the kids, you obviously have a lot of love and compassion. Try not to be hurt, just think of the kids. You respected their beliefs having them wrapped in non-holiday paper. The kids will be thrilled and will be able to secretly share what gifts they recieved at school. You are showing true Christian qualities here. You are Awesome! Merry Christmas!

How to get through an Assembly?
by kaxozula inme just learning the truth about the truth has just made it hard to even get through a two hour meeting at the the kingdom hall.
i get so sleepy during them and i almost cannot contain it!
the last time i went to a convention, i was still an avid believer but as you can see, that has changed.

You've received some great suggestions here. Volunteer for anything (making you look zealous, while getting you out of listening), offer to take a fussy baby/child for a short walk to give the parents some relief (making you look thoughtful, again while getting you away from the talks, just don't be gone more than 20-30 min.), and if you must, take many notes. This will keep your parents off you track.
I hope you are doing something to improve your chances for a better paying job. I am assuming you are a young person, so if you have to play the game for a while, do what you have to. Just have a long range plan for your future. If your parents object to your getting some type of higher education, be it college or trade school, tell them it is for the future, you will be able to give more to the society if you have a better paying job, without needing to worry about paying bills, working 2 jobs, etc. You will be able to give your all to them.
Be patient, you can do this!

oh dear I think I messed up and pushed too hard
by Frazzled UBM inreading all the posts on the wt study on higher education and careers really fired me up yesterday.
i have 2 undergraduate and 2 postgraduate degerees and a career as a result which allows me to provide well for my jw wife and son.
i was already unhappy because after 5 or 6 weeks of not going and appearing to be making progress she went back on sunday for the second sunday in a row and as usual was away all day.

Sounds like you are a man that usually thinks thing through.
Hmmm, you say that she has old friends from the Phillipines in her current congregation, giving her a sense of community. Are there any any Fillipino organizations in the community you could join with her to help her develop a new sense of community & help the kids identify a bit more with Mom's heritage?? Don't know if she would be open to that, but it might be worth a shot. All the best to you, crazy. Keep up the good fight, and Merry Christmas!

scum bag elder
by Crazyguy inso last night i had a family meeting and told my kids that i was quitting as a jw and then gave my wife my da letter to give to the one elder i like at the hall tonight.
so this morning i see a text from the co elder the one that met with me and is gunning to get me out and had already tried to get me to a jc meeting this week.
so the text reads "your wife has informed me of your letter and its sad to hear, would like to meet one last time not as a jc, to be sure this is what you want.".

I don't think your wife is your judas, crazyguy. I'm sure she loves you, and may just be trying to get you "back to the flock."
Have you been very direct with her, asking her what she is discussing with the elders? Perhaps you should sit down with your children one on one to gently & respectfully tell them what you know about the org., asking them in the beginning to please listen to you before they shut down, and allow you to finish before they speak. Tell them you will give them the same respect after. Can't hurt to try.
Can you ignore the elder? If he's been a jerk, you owe him nothing. You know you don't have to play by their rules. I hope your wife eventually comes around and sees the light. I know you will come out of this looking like the better person. You have us to talk to whenever you need. I hope your day gets better.

Just caught my 7 yr old watching 'Calebs Aeroplane' think I overreacted
by not bitter inat least i think thats what its called.
she was watching it at my parents house just now.
i asked what she was watching on my mums tablet and mum said whilst laughing 'oh sorry but she wants to watch bible stories' then all i heard was something about jehovah and keeping rooms tidy.

Poppers, I'm so sorry for your losses. Mind boggling that with all the money going to cancer research, they can't find a cure!
