Well. . . .you asked. It was when I thought Bush was right in invading Iraq (along with a lot of others who've changed). Now I feel it was dead wrong.

so, who else here reads diana gabaldon's books?
i read each one when they were first published, and loved them.
i've just recently started, out of nostalgia, to read them a second time.
Thanks for the notice about the DG book about Lord John, Insomniac!
I've read all of them (the first one twice) and was enthralled. It's a wonderful thing for me to find an author I really, really like.
Now I'm getting very interested in Phillip Pullmans' Dark Matter trilogy. It's good. However, it's written for teens, I think, but it is very good. It's kind of anti-Christian, lol, in an obtuse sort of way.
Cheers!

somebody once said: "opinions are like a**holes; everybody has one".
there is a difference between knowledge and opinion; a great distinction.. knowledge carries certainty that everybody everywhere gets the same result.
two plus two in nova scotia is the same as two plus two in des moines, iowa.
Is there safety in numbers?
It seems probable to me that we are "programmed" to go along with the "mob" through evolution. People did survive by getting together in numbers. Today, we've inherited this tendency from our distant ancestors who survived because of this. So, the tendency is to conform.
That's why informing ourselves is vital.

hey i just watched for the first time, monty python's "life of brian".
i know the film is 25 years old but being a dub we could never watch such a show.
it was great the way it made fun of the biblical story of jesus.
It was funny when the different factions of rebels broke into the palace (?) and the Romans just stood back and watched them argue and kill each other, then arrested Brian, the survivor.
Also when the Romans poured into the house looking for Brian and couldn't find him, again and again!

on september 8th, the cbs show 60 minutes ii ran a story bringing to light which purported to show that when president bush was in the national guard he failed to obey orders.
the memos were supposed to have been written in the early 1970s by a lieutenant colonel jerry b. killian.
(who is, as it happens, died in 1984.

i didn't realize anyone may be concerned about me, but i guess i disappeared pretty fast and some folks have been a bit worried.
so i just wanted to start a topic and let y'all know i am fine.
puter problems meant i had to shut down, so i disconnected from the internet for a few months.
I hope to be back in November,
Lol, by then the elections will be over!
It's awfully nice to hear from you, Tal.

i am canning today.
i got rid of all my jars, my pressure cooker and other canning paraphernalia years ago.
it seemed so silly to can anything for dave, myself, and our one remaining child at home.
There, there, Mulan. Good job you're doing and it must give you a lot of satisfaction. Just think of all the calories you're burning up too!

i remember when i first googled "jehovah's witnesses".
i was sick to my stomach because i feared that i was disobeying jehovah.
although i was scared that i would find something "apostate" or "demonic", i still continued to click on different links.
I was at work and felt as if I were eating the fabled forbidden fruit by typing in JWs in the search! I was truly ambivalent: determined to find out, but repelled because of endoctrination.
Segz, I'm so glad you're deciding to be an informed person! The feelings of fear go pretty fast after finding out a lot about the JW history, etc. If you haven't read on the "Links" and "Best Of" sections of this board, I'd strongly recommend it! There's a wealth of information there.
There really is freedom of information on the net. Had it been around in the 70s, I doubt they'd have near the membership. I probably wouldn't have joined had I had access to "the other side."
Hugs,

the postman has just brought another batch of get-well cards.
thank you so much, my friends, there have been so many, most without a return addy that i feel quite overwhelmed by all of this kindness.. just an update: (not for the squeamish).
i'm recovering well, although i can't walk more than about 50 yards at present.
Well, you can't keep a good man down!
Glad to see you're going 50, then 200 yards. The alcohol musn't be killing all those germs in the infection though! I'm glad to be able to hear from you on JWD.
Cheers!
