What's Your Sign?
by minimus inas witnesses, we were admonished to never look at horoscopes because they are demonic.
many jw's that i knew of would not even look at a fortune cookie because they could be "demonized".
i read my gemini everyday.

Meat on Friday
by bowels inhaving grown up a loyal little dub, i vaguely remember the time growing up (maybe 60's or 70's) that the catholics changed the rules that allowed them to eat meat on friday (i take this issue personally because in my school they always fed us the most horrible tasting tuna every friday).
i remember how my parents laughed at them and said "how are all those people that they believe are in hell going to feel now?".
my question is, for those who were catholics at that time, how was that handled for public relations purposes?

Society's damage limitation article.
by dmouse introubled by reports of the very problems that were supposed to be only the mark of false religions peadophilia (and hiding it) and hypocrisy (supporting the un) many honest hearted jws, it seems, have slowed down their meeting attendance and field ministry.
what has the society done to calm these very real worries concerning actual, not imagined, problems.. .
simple.

Has anyone noticed . . .
by ProveAll inhowdy all,.
has anyone noticed that some jws (prematurely) will run to debate the "trinity", "hell", "immortality of the soul", but they head for the hills when someone brings up the watchtower's present claims which are supposed to show why god approved and appointed them over all his belongings?
i find that when jws do become unwittingly involved with such a discussion, they practice a method of bait and switch.

The most extreme witness
by freedom96 inthere was an elder in my hall, that everyone feared, and had the power and position to make fear a realistic reaction.. i remember him saying, that if he or any of his grandchildren were ever to be disfellowshipped, not only would he never speak to them until they came back, but he would go to the extent of removing all their pictures from the walls of his house.
how harsh is that???.
just doesn't seem to me like god would do such a thing, and a religion that supported that type of behavior just boggled my mind.

A Question for All JWs to Ponder
by radar inif the governing body are spirit directed, why do they need to vote on issues pertaining to faith?.
if 12 governing body members vote, and say 5 vote in favour of one understanding but 7 vote in favour of the opposite.. does this mean that the 5 who were not of the majorityv, did not have jehovah's spirit on the matter?.
is the majority rule, the right one, the spirit directed one?.

Reparations for slavery: Just or unjust?
by MYOHNSEPH inthere's such a broad range of perception on this board, i'm curious to know what you folks think of this issue.
are contemporary decendents of black slaves in the united states justified in asking for monetary reparation for their ancestors' bondage?
