  WTBTS – assistance following an incident at bethel

  i haven’t posted for quite a while as i needed a break – although i have been lurking.. can anyone confirm if the wtbts give assistance to someone who has been involved in an incident whilst working at bethel and, as a result, must leave?.

  the reason i’m asking is that, back in the 80’s, i knew a sister who was in bethel service.

  she was assigned to the cleaning department.

  I would imagine so. I'm sure there is some sort of waiver they force you to sign. In the end, Bethelites are voluntary slaves.

  " or will they have the rank and file do all the dirty work while they sit back in their gated corporate country club?!

  Even as an active, full-believer Witness, I often wondered how this would be facilitated. At what point does the old GB say, "The Great Tribulation has started - begin with the judgment message." The reason I asked then was that Witnesses won't believe a word of anything unless its printed in the pages of the Watchtower.

  I had believed that when governments "turned on religion" that they would also seized all Watchtower properties. Being that the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is not Jehovah's Christian Congregation the religion would continue without Kingdom Halls or Watchtower publications.

  All I know is we have been on hold for well over a century for this judgment message...but, hey, its right around the corner. The end? No. The pre-end.

  " It is the True Religion ! "

  speaking to two jw's, separately and days apart, they both weaved in to the conversation the phrase " it is the true religion " .. now in neither case was it possible for me to do my usual thing, piling in with both guns blazing and pointing out that it is impossible for there to be any such thing as "the true religion", unless by "truth" you mean that which is true in your opinion and not supported by facts or reality etc etc.

  my question is : is this mere coincidence, or has there been an article or something telling them to say this ?

  if there is, could someone point me to it ?

  I always heard it as "It is the ONLY true religion" as all other religions are "false". Of course, what is a "false religion"? I know what false teeth are, but how is a religion not really a religion?

  in the aftermath of the valentine's day school shooting in florida, i have read quite a number of articles, blogs and posts about the event.

  it is disturbing--and i think inexcusable--that many people take the opportunity to use horrible tragedies such as this to push their own particular agenda.. in particularly insensitive and tone-deaf tweet, conservative political commentator tomi lahren wrote: "can the left let the families grieve for even 24 hours before they push their anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda?

  The 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution does not give a right. It acknowledges that all people have the universal, or God given, right to defend themselves. In addition, the framers of the document did not intend on having standing armies or law enforcement agencies. Rather, all able bodied citizens are to be armed and proficient in the use of said arms. The purpose for that is that all able bodied citizens are to provide military and constabulary services to their communities in a time of need. Citizens could pay a tax to get out of this service. This lead to the eventual change we have today where the average citizen wants a nanny-state to take care of them.

  The first thing we must do is stop referring to these horrible events as "school shootings". These are mass murders. We must ask ourselves "Why are people targeting our children for murder and why in a school?" Then we must ask "What can we do to deter people from doing this?" Deterrence rather than "stop" because in the end, we cannot prevent people from committing murder.

  Yesterday I listened to young Emma Gonzales speak in front of the crowd protesting for "common sense gun control" in Florida. It didn't strike me until 3:45AM this morning, but one of the statements this young lady said is a common statement on this topic. Gonzales blamed the firearm. Gonzales stated that if the perpetrator did not have a firearm this would not have happened. Gonzales then countered the argument from the other side of the aisle in regards to the fact that these mass murder tragedies are committed with instruments other than firearms. Gonzales countered it be stating: 1. But he did have a firearm and 2. If he used a knife there would not be as many victims (side note: the highest death count of a single school attack was over 300 dead. The instrument used was fire and explosives. The highest in US history is still the Bath Township Massacre of 1927. A time bomb made from material purchased at a hardware store was the instrument used).

  It was item #2 that woke me. Gonzales continued by stating if we could reduce the number of victims of each of these tragedies it was worth banning firearms. That's the spark that lit the fire in me.

  I have brought 2 children into this world and raised a third that I adopted. My biologic kids are still in school. I have a great deal of anger with the sentiment of Ms. Gonzales that she seemed to be parroting. My discontent is that the idea expressed actually sounds like this to me -

  "Our children will still be targeted for murder in school and will continue to be murdered in school, but at least guns are banned from private citizen ownership, so at least your child's murder will be carried out by some other instrument."

  Sorry, Ms. Gonzales. Sorry to all who parrot that belief. Not good enough.

  Based on that idea if the death count was cut in half, from 17 to 8, Ms. Gonzales would feel good about herself because she could tell the parents of the 9 children who were saved - "See, we saved your children's lives!" Well, what about the parents of the other 8 children who were cut down in cold blood by a knife, a bomb, a fire, a truck, etc.? What do you tell them?

  The other thing that angered me was Ms. Gonzales stating that the "good guy with a gun" theory is a fallacy, or, in her own words, "BS." This is intellectually dishonest and hypocritical. I promise you the moment the first gunshot rang out in that high school there were over a 1,000 students and teachers dialing 911. Why? To get law enforcement there as fast as possible. Yes, police officers or deputy sheriffs. You know, good guys. With guns.

  Friday night CNN interviewed 3 young men. All 3 were 17 year old students of the high school and who were friends of one of the victims. The news anchor started out by saying these 3 young men already refused to answer questions about gun control. In spite of this, the news anchor tried his best to bait them into it. Finally they were asked how they thought it was best to prevent such tragedies. One spoke up. He stated that his school had one police officer in it and, even though he believed that the officer was capable of stopping the threat, that one was not enough due to the size of the school. He continued that if there had been more police officers regularly posted in the school that the event would not have happened.

  People object to the idea of armed and trained first responders being posted inside our school. It makes them squeamish. However, they have no problem crying for help when their child's school is under attack to have the same first responders to get the school and stop the attack. Its common sense - stop the threat before there are any victims. If a disturbed 19 year old walks onto his old high school campus with a shouldered rifle (or a butcher knife, an axe, a bomb, 5 gallons of gasoline and a lighter, etc.) its pretty clear what his intent is. If that same 19 year is immediately greeted by 2 or 3 first responders with shouldered rifles of their own I promise you that there is only 1 person leaving the school in a body bag that day.

  The bottom line is this - Do we want to do something about stopping mass murders in schools or do we just want to push our political party's agendas? Do we want to take steps to protect our children while they are in school or do we just want to protect them from being shot in school?

  There were so many things that finally tip the scales, but the first "eye-opener" was when I was 19 and serving as a young ministerial servant in the Circuit Assembly Accounts Department. We just heard a reversal of an organization policy involving alternative service in lieu of mandatory military service that stated it was now alright to do so. The elder I was working with was a college student during the Vietnam War and remembers all the brothers who went to prison even though the were offered to work in the US Post Office instead of military service. I saw how deeply it effected him and saw in myself how it effected me.

  I have a pistol, rifle, and shotgun for work. I bought my son a single-action .22 revolver. It's an expensive hobby.

  I used to have 2 black powder cap-and-ball revolvers. They were a lot of fun. I regret selling them as they are now as expensive as firearms.

  if somebody knocks on your door and wants to enter your home (for whatever reason) you are faced with a decision process based, in part, on your ability to suss out why you do or do not allow entrance.. agreed?example:.

  "i'm being stalked by a madman--please let me hide inside" would be a strong emotional reason.

  Our personal belief on the definition of what an "immigrant" is has no bearing in the eyes of codified statutes. When reading statute a definition of words is often provided.

  In addition, leaving an impoverished, war torn, corrupt, violent country to come to the US illegally to make a better life for you and you family is not a defense to prosecution.

  If a down on his luck man robs a bank to provide for his kids, the children don't get to keep the bank's money after he is arrest.

  Separate the man Donald J. Trump from the President and my answer is -Yes.

  President Trump is doing much of what he said he would do. If he talks about things that seem to contradict his election campaign it's because its part of a strategy. Case in point - DACA.

  Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals was not a law. It wasn't even an Executive Order as it was unconstitutional. Rather, it was a memo telling immigration officials not to deport criminal aliens brought to the US as children before 1987 if they registered with federal immigration authorities. Democrats in the US Senate refused to pass a continued resolution to fund the federal government (the US Congress has failed to pass a budget since 2009 which is why the US is not over 20 Trillion in debt) unless those effected by DACA were addressed.

  To address this, President Trump asked for legislation to give a pathway to citizenship to some 800,000 that actually registered under DACA and the million+ more that chose not to in exchange for an end to chain-migrations, the VISA lottery, and for funding to build a border wall. This request far surpasses the demands to address DACA recipients. Senate Democrats won't approve it and Trump knows that. Trump is just exposing them.

  In the end what really matters to individual Americans is "How are doing personally since Trump took office?"

  My family and I are doing great. I got a 12.5% pay at work. I keep more of the money I earn as taxes went down. My retirement is solid because for the first time in history the Dow Jones Industrial market exceed 26K points and stock returns are averaging a 23% return. I just filed my income tax. I made more money in 2017, but have a larger return than 2016 because I qualify for the Child Earned Income Tax Credit again even though I am in a higher tax bracket.

  I didn't vote for Trump in 2016, but I think I will in 2020.
