For a cult that less than 30 years later flip-flopped on their view of alternative service. This was the first thing that opened my eyes to what the organization is.

Regional JW "Culture" - Did you experience any differences that surprised you?
by Diogenesister inso this particular comment on another topic got me thinking about "regional" jw cultures.
things that were acceptable in one area you lived in, that were absolutely verboten in the jw hall/circuit you perhaps grew up in etc.
never met jws that cared if people played chess, and i knew a number of people who did play chess.

I was born in the northern mid-west of the U.S. and lived there until I was 12. Wearing clothing displaying professional sports teams' logos was just not done. My family moved to the west coast and no one had a problem with it.

Do You Know Of Anyone Who Left JWs And Then Decided To Return?
by minimus inquite a few years ago there was a poster here that left the religion because he knew it was simply not true.
however, he returned to jws because he wanted to be with his family.
i don’t know how he is doing but gumby was his name.

Honestly, I have never heard of a single one after being in for the first 36 years of my life. 4 states. 6 congregations. Not 1.

For ACTIVE JW's: Are you watching/waiting/preaching that Armageddon is near?
by The Fall Guy inif so, exactly who told you to live in expectation of this event?
"test the inspired expressions" you've been fed, by reading what your "silver sword" says on the subject.. (matthew 24:36) “concerning that day and hour nobody knows,....only the father.
(matthew 24:42) keep on the watch, therefore, because you do not know on what day your lord is coming.

Simple reason and logic cannot deny this. Jesus "composite sign" that Witnesses teach about marks the beginning of the "last days". Nothing more. To say "we're so close" is completely false and inappropriate.

My JW friend
by former2free ini have been on a journey to leave and my plans are starting to come to their fulfillment.
i got the job i want back to move away from where i’m at and i have just a couple of hurdles to get past.
one of those was telling my best friend whom i’ve known since i was 13. he is still very active and indoctrinated and we had a long conversation where i told him i’m leaving the organization.

Good for you. It may seem difficult at first. It will be. What helps speed up the process of feeling better is filling your voids. Make new friends. Close friends. People who really care about you and show it. Work towards your goals. Enjoy life.

What’s the big deal with birthday cake?
by Addison0998 inhow strict were the jehovah’s witnesses you knew about birthday cake?
i knew a girl who saw a few pieces of cake in the break room at her work, and ate a peice, then found out later that it was left over birthday cake.
she felt so guilty and was scared about a bad impression she left on her work mates.

I was the only Witness in my whole elementary school. I can't tell you how much birthday goodness I ate growing up. Valentine's Day candy was great, too!
Meanwhile, my JW friends back at the Kingdom Hall would probably volunteer for execution by guillotine rather than eat birthday cake.

Ask her if she will put some of Satan's cash into the contribution box so the congregation can deposit it into Satan's bank and then send it to the WBTS who will put Satan's money into another one of Satan's banks. After all, that recent judgment of $35 million against the WBTS for promoting internal policies of not reporting child abuse won't pay themselves off.

Family is now reaping what they sowed and they don't like it.
by Gemmel ini resigned from the jw's in my 20's over 30 years ago, i was immediately shunned by my entire family and it's remained that way with a few exceptions ever since.
one of those exceptions was being contacted by a cousin a few years back and during that conversation i discovered that my mother had been and still was the prime mover in my complete and continuing shunning.
i then used what contacts i had left to confirm it.

Before I was out of the organization and just inactive my mother took down all the photos of myself, my wife, and my children. Since I have been completely out I have not spoken to her in nearly a decade. This past weekend my sister poster a photo of my parents and my nieces. It was taken at their one day assembly. It hurt to think that my parents have nothing to do my children simply because I do not want to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
I know the real loss is theirs and theirs alone. It still terribly troubling to me.
