Ridiculous ways you kept your "time going" in service?

i used to go out early mornings with 2 pioneer elders, we would drive 20 miles out of the territory (a big no-no) to look for hikers to preach to lol of course there were never any hikers.

then off to starbucks for another hour lol easy way to count 2-4 hours.

i am chuckling as i write this, what a joke!.

I hated working with those overzealous time keeps who had their own set of rules. Nothing sucked more than being in a car group where this idiot started spouting rules like not counting idle time, and the 15 minute break rule. My uncle was so strict that he only counted time when he was talking someone. He thought it was wrong to count time walking between doors and not-at-homes.

On the flip side, I remember spending the morning and half a Saturday afternoon driving around making worthless visits to friendly people who had no interest in the religion. It really didn't matter because there was nothing about these calls that would suggest the purpose was to promote a religion. Not even sure they knew what religion we were.

Elder's remark about contributions not being made

i am still in and was assigned to collect the contribution after the meeting.

i checked the boxes with another brother and there was nothing inside.

no contributions were made that day.

Most contributions come from a few within the congregation. These ones usually set aside a certain amount every month and write a single check. I would not expect they would see a steady flow at each meeting.

Counting time

i may not have put this in the correct spot, but i do think it's scandalous the way time gets counted now.

i've seen a cart at the edge of our farmer's market, never anyone close enough to talk.

yesterday was a drizzly day and there were two carts set up, covered in plastic, "witnessing" on their own.

well, the reason is simple: there is more to gain than to lose by not disfellowshipping.

Will the UN turn on Religion?

as all witnesses know, the opening gambit of the great tribulation will occur when the united nations turns on organized religion to devastate them and leave them naked of people and resources.

however, as jehovah's judgement day has been spoken of as being "imminent", the question that can be fairly asked ... 'is the united nations organization actually in a position to act as god's destroyer of false religion?

while i have no doubt that most within that organization had in the past tried to make the lives of the desperate better, the united nations has unfortunately now become a weak and underfunded political eunuch.

The Watchtower never gave a good definition of what "turning on religion" really means. Do you have an idea of what is the practical application of this "turning?"

Once you think through what they suggest, it is actually pretty silly.

What is the purpose of life?

while reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.

because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".

i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

Given the number of posts that have responded to asking what is the meaning of life, I guess the meaning of life is to explain what the meaning of life is.

If that isn't it then the meaning of life must be to simply perpetuate the DNA of the human species, at least until something better comes along. Then we will die off just like millions of other species before us.
