Are Winter Olympics Boring?
by Oroborus21 inis it just me or are the winter olympics boring?.
i dunno, maybe ice hockey sometimes is interesting and a few of the short speed skating events...but ice skating, all the skiing events, even snowboarding....it all seems pretty boring to me.

Getting Dooced -- Is it Right?
by Oroborus21 inso i was reading an article tonight about getting dooced which is apparently happening a lot these days... getting dooced is when someone is fired for what they post on their personal blog (you could probably expand it to any only forum).
i know that it isn't a constitutional issue but still it seems like the spirit of the freedom of speech should be preserved.

The Rapture Movie
by Oroborus21 injust happened to catch this movie on tv, from 1991, the rapture, starring mimi rogers.. has anyone else seen it and have any comments regarding it?.
i found the movie to be an interesting mishmash of various concepts.
i know it isn't an accurate portrayal of fundamentalism or born-again christian faith but i found some of the bits amusing in how it displayed how sometimes these persons can be just as judgmental and self-righteous as anyone - not too mention mentally disturbed.

St. George and the Dragon
by Oroborus21 inlike many people, i have been a littlle puzzled by the actions and rhetoric of iran's president, president mahmoud ahmadinejad, in the face of what is beginning to seem an inevitable outcome of a u.s. led military intervention in iran's sovereign intention to develop nuclear technology.. at first, i figured his comments regarding israel, etc.
could be dismissed along the lines of president reagan's calling the soviet union an "evil empire" but then recently i learned that president ahmadinejad actually holds very strong messianic beliefs which might explain why he seems eager or at least willing to allow the present crisis to develop to that point.
for those who have not famialiarized yourself with his beliefs regarding the return of the twelfth imam, this article seems to be a good summary: http://www.ashbrook.org/publicat/guest/05/vonheyking/twelfthimam.html.

REVIEW OF JCS "BIG NEWS" ARTICLE
by Oroborus21 innote: the catholic molestation cases have mostly been evaluated under employment law theories not the tort of misrepresentation or under non-fraud related tort claims]; fails to address important legal considerations such as standing and statute of limitations; and finally and most importantly, the essay fails to address in any meaningful way the inevitable constitutional arguments that would be raised by opposing (watchtower) counsel.
supreme court justices do not have the time to browse through law journals and the implication that they would be interested in an essay is even more deceptive.
the society does not cite a 1960 study as evidence that blood transfusions are hazardous.. here is the actual quotation in context:.

legal misrepresentation is not the same as the common dictionary definition.
legal misrepresentation requires that the bad actor knowingly and deliberately lied with recklessness.

THIS JUST IN: CHRISTMAS has been CANCELLED this winter.
by Oroborus21 inflash--november 16, 2005, peoria, il.. instead of merry christmas, happy hannukah (or chanukah), kwanza, etc.all merchants are to use a generic term instead.
no use of santa, a nativity scene or any christian or other religious symbolage may be used in store displays, on advertising on upon product packaging.
use instead nondescript wintry animals, snowflakes and candycanes to signify the holiday season.. the committee on political correctness is expected to issue a final ruling by friday on whether "festivus" may be used.. -merchants for appropriate designations.
