Can the Gospels be Dated Early?
by XJW4EVR inthis is the first post examining the manuscript and scriptural evidence for an early dating of the four gospels.
again the author is looking for both positive and negative feedback, as well as spirited good-natured debate with those that may not agree with his opinions.
all posts will be allowed provided they are civil and use appropriate language (inapporpriate language will be removed, but the post will not)..

Do you ENJOY these endless theism/atheism - faith/reason - creation/evolution debates?
by nicolaou in.
sure i get frustrated when i have to explain for the bajillionth time just why atheism is not a belief or why it is possible to know some things with 100% certainty but despite all the exasperations i still count it as one of the rewards of freeing my mind and exiting the wt that i can argue so endlessly and freely.. even if some of you do get on my tits sometimes .

To serving elders and anyone else who went to the SM this week ...
by wannabefree injw serving elders ... did any of you have to handle the part at the sm this week on why jehovah's witnesses are not a false prophet?.
this part made me livid.
our most corporate elder handled this part and i felt my self wanting to refute everything he said.

Love your neighbor
by ex-chum ini've often wondered how witnesses seem to do well with christ's 2nd commandment with fellow witnesses and not all their neighbors.
is this just another effect of their teachings?
do they translate this scripture differently in their bible?.

Was the legend about Smurfs being demonic just an urban legend, or was it mentioned in the literature?
by IsaacJ22 ini never heard about the smurfs being evil until i joined the forum.
but when i look in the volume library, the word doesn't come up.
i was wondering if anyone ever heard mention of it in the literature--as in, was it an official position?.

# 1 scripture that Jehovah Witnesses avoid, when denying they are false prophets
by wasblind injeremiah 28: 15-17. and jeremiah the prophet went on to say to hananiah the prophet: "listen, please, oh hananiah!
jehovah has not sent you, but you yourself have caused this people to trust in a falsehood.
therefore this is what jehovah has said, ' look!

We are not false prophets
by Cook My Socks UK inbelow is the outline for a talk on the service meeting this week, i guess to help ones to answer the objection / accusation - how would you refute, if this reasoning was used by a jw at your door?.
have not jehovahs witnesses made errors in their teachings?.
jehovahs witnesses do not claim to be inspired prophets.

Why DO Horrible Things Happen, Anyway?
by Farkel inthe insane things that occur to people who just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time is scary and creepy to me.
a little girl is holding her teddy bear and as a coincidence is tragically on that same street when a bunch of gang-bangers decide to stage a gun fight because someone looked cross-eyed at one of their girl friends (you mamy insert any other bullshit reason here), so they start shooting and the little girl is shot and killed because she is innocently in their cross-fire.
when captured and arrested, the gang-bangers says they are "sorry" for snuffing out the life of that little girl.

disease equals demons?
by ssn587 ingot this idea, (yeah i know it don't happen often) while reading another post, but the bible says at acts 10:38 nwt (not with truth translation), "namely, jesus who was from nazareth, how god anointed him with holy-spirit and power, and he went through the land doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil.".
here and other places, disease, ie.
seizures, were in fact possessed by demons, that kind of thinking prevades the watchtower society, in that local elders tell those suffering to pray more, meeting more, d to d more.

Like we'll ever settle this once and for all, but here goes; ARE YOU A TRUE CHRISTIAN?
by nicolaou inthe watchtower says; "there is an enormous distinction between true christianity and the religion practiced by those who are christians in name only" - wt 1st october 2009. now, in the light of all the current controversy over the word 'atheist' and what it means can you see how irritating it is to have your frame of reference, be it a religious belief system or something else, redefined by others?
and usually it is redefined by those who have something to gain by the linguistic manipulation.. for the watchtower the gain is easy to see but what about the attempt by many believers to define atheism as a belief system?
could it be that equating rational atheism with belief is nothing more than an attempt to legitimize faith?.
