Red Flag Apostate Phrases for JWs
by comment ini remember that when i was a witness, seeing certain phrases would trigger the response: "aha, this must be from an apostate!".
those words and phrases included:.
"the watchtower society"--because the brothers would usually just call it "the society" and because this was, of course, merely a legal instrument the brothers used to advance the preaching work.. "the governing body"--because despite the power they may wield, the governing body does stay in the background personality-wise most of the time and has done so pretty much since the days of knorr; therefore, i regarded any attempts to point to them as personally important as suspicious (and can recall being charmed in an odd way a few years ago when a brother giving a public talk was unable to recall the name of the society's current president).. "the rank and file"--obviously this was insulting because jehovah's witnesses have no clergy-laity division!

Why do some believe in alien conspiracies?
by Seeker ini've been thinking why a few here buy into things such as the illuminati conspiracies, or secret alien takeovers of our society, the masons taking over the world, and other far-fetched ideas.
i'm sure there are an abundant number of reasons for this, some of which apply to people in general.
but i think there are factors that are unique to those who have left high-control groups such as the wts.

FREE FLYER TO DOWNLOAD AND DISTRIBUTE!
by nicolaou inthe volunteer section at the dnc site is coming along now.. in addition to the affiliate scheme there are now labels and an eyecatching a5 flyer to print off and distribute.. .
it's simple - no fancy graphics - and can be printed 'black on white' very cheaply.. a 1000 flyers can be produced for very few 's or $'s.. how about spending a bit extra for two-color printing, the bright red warning!
is really worth it.. don't say there's nothing you can do because now there is!.

The three reasons we leave the "Truth"
by sleepy inseems to me there are mainly three roads most of us have taken.
1.we did something "wrong" and were disfellowshipped and after felt able to look at the society in a different light.. 2.we didn't like the "truth" and were looking for a way out.. 3.we wanted it to be the truth but were overcome by the mountain of evidence against it.. which is the most common i wonder.. also do our motives play a large part in how we deal with information criticising the org.. without a reason to act information seems useless.. for instance if a person feels he has nothing to gain by leaving the org will he read different things into the same info as us?.
i think so and that all who leave must have a reason to do so, something to gain.. this does not make their reasoning wrong or prove they we are looking for just excuse.. but is a normal way in which humans deals with information.. two humans can have the same information but if they want or desire different things they may use the information differently.. maybe thats wht so many say "where else is there to go?

Blood, DPA Question ... how do you void?
by karen7680 insince leaving the organization, i never gave any thought to the blood issue or the dpa (durable healthcare power of attorney)that i signed 3 or 4 years ago.
now that i have surgery scheduled in 3 and a half months ... one in which the surgeons will have a high degree of bleeding to control, it has been on my mind a lot.. it got me to thinking about how my dpa is technically still in effect and my jw mother and my elder brother-in-law have medical say if i am not able to express my wishes.
my question is ... how do you officially void a dpa?
