Now that I think of it, Dave Mustaine from Megadeth, wasn't his mom a witness?
Yep, and Dave was raised as a witness(never baptized) until he was a young teen or tween. I believe they lived in La Mesa, CA. It's wonderful knowing that the WTS probably helped fuel Dave's musical talents by letting him get his anger out. I would love to sit down with Dave sometime and interview him about his jw upbringing.

Just looking at those pictures together makes me want to ask one question:
Name one religion that has ever produced as many books/magazines/brochures/etc. as the WTS has. Hell, name any business that has produced such an array of literature. (weekly or monthly publications don't count)

Ongoing 'Don't shun me' campaign.
by AK - Jeff inas many of you know by now - i do not tolerate 'shunners'.
i have done no evil, killed no one, never raped or pillaged any witnesses.
i do not tolerate small-minded witnesses who called me 'brother' for most of 40 years, now acting as if i am no better than sh*t on the bottom of their shoes.

Oh, and those were a couple of bands that didn't follow the glam, fashion, and make-up silliness of the 80's like most of the others. It was about heavy/speed metal and nothing else.

If you're talkin' metal, don't forget Megadeth. One of their 80's songs that still fits today's world:
Peace Sells
What do you mean I don't believe in God?
Talk to him every day
What do you mean I don't support your system?
I go to court when I have to
What do you mean I can't get to work on time?
Got nothing better to do
What do you mean I don't pay my bills?
Why do you think I'm broke? Huh?If there's a new way
I'll be the first in line
But, it better work this timeWhat do you mean I hurt your feelings?
I didn't know you had any feelings
What do you mean I ain't kind?
Just not your kind
What do you mean I couldn't be President Of the United States of America?
Tell me something, it's still 'We the people', right? If there's a new way
I'll be the first in line
But, it better work this timeCan you put a price on peace?
Peace, peace sells, peace, peace sells
Peace sells, but who's buying?Peace sells, but who's buying?
No, no, no, no, no!
Peace sells
Peace sellsOh, and Slayer's Reign in Blood.

but are rather as unreasoned and emotional as the best of that "type" of rhetoric found on this thread. I'm genuinely looking through your comments wondering if I can find an ounce of sense in post after post of temper tantrum.
You've noticed this too?
Justice's line of reasoning can be summed up with one phrase:
My country, right or wrong.
Blinddevotion to the org is what most of us freed ourselves from. It seems that some people prefer to trade one blindness for another. I guess they need to feel a *sense* of security, even if it leads down the wrong path.

Scientology??
by Junction-Guy inwell i know very little about scientology, but from what i have seen on this board, alot of xjw's feel it is even worse than jw's.
what is it about scientology that makes it seem worse?
the reason i ask is i was passing through cincinnati the other day returning home from dayton and there was a scientology church in downtown cincinnati.

Post your favorite saying
by Scully ini was just pondering how the wts has, for over a century, been able to convince people to do what is contrary to their best interests with fear tactics that armageddon is coming soon, and i came up with what is going to be my pet phrase for a while:.
"only religion has the power to compel people to embrace sheer stupidity in the name of faith.
" ~ scully, december 28, 2006. i googled it, and didn't see that anyone else has claimed it, so until someone else finds an attribution for it, i'm claiming it as my own.
