Like chess there are plenty of ways to play the game. Some of my suggestions:
1) Never do more than you can sustain in the long term. It's about being regular and potentially improving each and every year - if you start too quickly the only way is down. You'll be mirroring the WTS - slow regular growth.
2) Don't pioneer, just auxiliary pioneer once a year but do it during the CO visit for maximum exposure. No need to do lots of hours the rest of the year, just turn up to lots of groups and make up a generous report. Ask to work with the elders on FS and make sure you ask their advice on stuff (it's always the easiest FS cos the elders will keep driving round in the cars making sure the flock are busy).
3) Answer at each WT and get your answer in early (so you can daydream for the rest of the meeting) preferably mentioning Ceder Point Ohio or something that shows you value the history of the organisation. Be sure to answer on the topic of how hard elders work and how long suffering their wives are.
4) Ask the elders if there is any help they need - i.e. if there are any weak ones who they think you would be able to take on FS. They won't lumber you with the convicted pedo - just someone who is probably lurking on JWN that'll you'll get on really well with.
5) Name drop. When at FS groups answer up by saying "I was out the other day with Elder X and he used a really successful presentation" - do it when elders or when the CO is around. Ensure you give all the elders equal mention per annum.
6) Give talks. Be reliable and make them interesting. Always relay a stunning fact about nature that will stick in the mind of an elder afterwards. Ensure you do not swear accidently from the platform.
7) Any duty you are given, like doing the mic's - don't screw up. Don't check out sisters, married or single, especially if they're an elder's daughter or wife. There's no way to disguise a boner when walking down the isle.
8) Turn up 15 minutes early to meetings. Better be a bit early often than very early some days and late others. You can get away with leaving quickly afterwards if you've got there early and already done the rounds.
9) When you chat to people at the hall keep it brief - 15 one minute conversations are better than 1 fifteen minute conversation. This is also for self preservation - will save you getting stuck with one of those munters who'll bore the pants off you.
10) Don't ever mention JWN, keep your porn stashed away, don't get spotted in a red light district, at the races or boozing.
This may not be the fastest way to eldership but 10 ways to do it without too much effort.
