Where did 607 come from?

okay so we've obviously established on this board that 607 is not the correct date that babylon destroyed jerusalem.

even before 1914 came around, the bible students still thought 1914 would be a pivital date.

the only way they can gain that info is from the 7 times or w/e.

John Aquila Brown wrote about the 2,520 years prophecy before Charles Russell was born. His book was called "The Even Tide". But his span of dates was 604 BCE - 1917 CE. I can't remember what his 604 date was all about, and if it had anything to do with Jerusalem or some other event.

However, I do remember that Russell accepted the date of 1874 as the invisible return of christ. And there would be a 40 year harvest period, thus culminating in 1914 with Armageddon.

Sooooo, perhaps he just counted backwards from 1914 and reached 607 BCE.

Disclaimer: I do not have all the facts about this. This is merely a possibility. Please do not take this as a fact, because it is just some bits and pieces that I remember from reseraching Russell and 607 BCE a while back.

Do you believe the Bible?

i don't want to high jack african gb's thread but something got me thinking.... moses, abraham were inbred and hearing god's voice... paul never met jesus yet he is the only apostle coming down like a hammer of gays and has this "close bond" with timothy.

then there is the issue of "horus" the egyptian god and is this where the story of jesus comes from.

i have searched the internet for information on horus and have not had much luck finding anything authorative either way.. my question is do you or don't you believe in the bible and why or why not?

JW Urban Legands

in my congregation we have many urban legands, like the one about the smurf doll jumping out of a girls lap and running out of the kh because it couldn't stand to hear the good news.

we also had one where a sister was out in fs and a dog talked, it told a sister not to knock on this one door, the sister went to the house and knocked anyway, and the doors and windows of the house flew open and dishes flew out, the sister was scared and ran away and the dog yelled at her retreating back "i told you not to got here!

".

The JW demon stories are hilarious. One brother said he was walking around a crowded city plaza and walked about 50 feet away from a tarrot card reader who had his back to him as he was doing his thing with a customer. As the brother passed by, the tarrot card reader stopped doing his thing, turned all the way around and looked at him for a few seconds, and then returned to reading the cards for his customer. I remember repeating this story many times, as I thought it was so profound. Like the demons felt the presence of a true christian, and this tarrot card reader had to turn around and see who it was..

would you put your home up for sale in a buyers market telling the realator to just sell it even if theres no profir after the sale?

would you put your sick 82 yr old mother in a nursing home, even knowing it means a loss of not only her but also of her $1,500 a month pension?

I gave up a scholarship to college in order to regular pioneer back in 1995. That is now one of my biggest regrets. I remember there was a teacher in school that talked to me about it, but I wouldn't listen. He tried to encourage me to go on and get my college degree while I was young.

Standing Room Only at Tulsa District Convention

my parents were to attend the dc in tulsa, when they arrived, there was no parking and no seats available.

is this because there are more people in the area or fewer locations and times?.

Neither the Bible or Dictionary support the new light on the Generation

according to the governing body, the anointed who were on hand in 1914 will overlap the lives of todays anointed.

these two groups make up one generation.. "bull".

the bible supports the dictionaries definition of generation, matthew 1:1-17 shows abraham, isaac and jacob as three separate generations, verse 17 says: "all the generations, then, from abraham until david were fourteen generations.. the dictionaries definition say: all people born around the same time; a single stage in the descent of a family or group.

It seems as if the "generation" update just came and went. Everybody accepted it, and those who didn't understand it didn't seem to worry about it. Of course, I'm on the outside now, so I do not have a direct line of info coming in, therefore I'm not really qualified to judge the reaction from within the ORG.

Atheists - how do you feel about magic / demonism?

curious, as ones not believing in any spirit creatures, would you feel completely at ease performing a summon demon ritual, or using ancient magic words, that absolutely nothing would happen?

or deep down would you have a 'what if' restraint preventing you?

bohm - funny stuff. With a little imagination and some phobias, the dubs can come up with some spooky stories about demons. Esp when you throw medication and/or mental problems into the mix.

I have my address posted on my mailbox for all to see, so if Satan and his demons would like to come by and introduce themselves, they know where to find me. I left the "one true religion" a few months back, and they haven't showed up and possessed me yet. I'm still waiting.

On a serious note, if somebody pulled out a Ouija board, I'm sure I would be a little apprehensive, solely because of my JW training that I was indoctrinated with for so many years. However, I would definitely jump right in just to prove there are no demons.

Life is so much easier and makes much more sense without all these invisible demons everywhere around me. I'm glad to be rid of those fears.

So this is my 500th post I believe since I joined a couple of months ago. I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that have shared in my recovery. As all of you well know, leaving a cult is challenging. I have faced quite a few challenges along the way, and still have some big ones still in front of me. My entire family is now OUT, with the exception of my wife. I can't reveal too much publicly at this point, but will in the future.

So once again, thanks to everyone that commented on my topics that I started as well as anybody that offered suggestions to me on what to do when I asked for advice. And many thanks to everybody else for sharing stories and posting experiences that have helped me tremendously.
