To make a differance in whatever small way I can. To leave as small a footprint on the earth as I can. To live with grace, to learn patience, and to learn something new every single day.

since the meaning of life has change for most of us here, i thought it would be interesting to hear your answer to this question now.. for me, the meaning is to be close to family and friends, enjoy life as much as possible and follow my heart while being as good person i can be.. your turn.

Turns out his family was JW, and though there were lots of twists and turns to the plot along the way, bottom line was, they forgave him for joining the military (huh??) but when he came out to them as gay, the father murdered him.
The wife said after he did it he knew he lost his everlasting life and she would never forgive him, so he quit eating and drinking and killed himself that way (the father).
It was pretty good, acutally.

as i am new this may have been asked before.
but it is something i have been thinking about since i left the religion.. .
things i havent yet done but would like to do include:.
Ah a bucket list. Mine includes:
1. Visit Germany to meet my penpal, I wrote to him when I was in Jr High many many years ago, from the time I was around 12 until I was 19, then lost track of him until earlier this year.
2. Learn to speak German. My father never kept up with the language from his parents, though I will admit speaking German in his youth might not be a smart thing to do.
3. Visit New Zealand, I've wanted to ever since the LOTR trilogy. Absolutely beautiful and I'd like to meet and learn from the Maori.
4. Drive across the US. I've always wanted to take a road trip completely across, but never really had the where-withall to do that.
All I can think of for now.

i'm down with the flu right now, and of course the first thing i want is my chicken soup.
so that made me wonder.
when you were growing up, did your mom give you anything special when you were sick?

I thought most people got chicken soup as I did, but we talked about this at work recently and I was pretty surprised by the answers.

Welcome Aussie! Yes I'm surprised at the amount of JWs that come here too. Some come out of curiosity and actually learn something that assists them to start thinking. Others come to "tell us off" and then stay awhile to argue before going on their way. One or two spend a considerable amount of time trying to convince us the errors of our ways and spout of jw-speak and jargon that we have all heard ad-nauseum.
You'll get more posts after a few days of posting when the admins see that you aren't some type of flaming troll here to curse and damn us.
I look forward to hearing more of your story.

after all these years!!!!
she is 63 yrs old still a jw.. has shunned me for years.. she lives in montreal me in ontario... .
last week i got the urge to send her a lovely card just to tell her i love her .
This story made my day. Patience and love win out and you have both of those in spades.
if so...why?.
i don't know what i believe so i'm just curious.

I think Jesus existed, he just wasn't god. Just like Robin Hood existed but was no where near the stuff of legends. All things get exaggerated and glorified with time. After all, 100 years later you can say they pretty much did anything and there aren't too many eye witnesses around to deny it.

in the 2 halls i was in, there were a few.
but the most memorable one was an elderly pioneer who would ask the householder if they wanted to hear about "the truth".
when they quite naturally said ,"no", he responded with, "if you don't believe in jesus, jesus will turn you into a pig"!.
My parents. My mom in particular. My mom is one of those people you never ask "how are you doing?" Because she'll tell you (at length) and it usually ends up being about her bowel movements. I spent my entire life being embarressed by my parents. bleh
JWs can't separate the bad act from the person. But they are like most fundamentalist religions on this point.

i am not a christain, but i do read the bible and believe myself to be a reasonabily moral person.
i have homosexual friends and relatives and would like to see just one bible passage where jesus himself says "men should not lay with men".... perhaps i may have missed it- or perhaps you practice paulianity instead of christianity?????
?.
ohhhh.... SOM used to post on here under a different name, I remember now. Wish I could think of the name. And, he did have a struggle with his sexuality, I remember the threads. Someone else remember? I'm not good at the search feature.
