Wonderful news about Ali....and something to warm your heart
by coffee_black inas i have posted, my daughter ali has been in the cardiac intensive care unit since thursday.
her bp, heartrate and blood sugar went sky high, due to horrible coughing spells from a chest cold that left her gasping for air.. she has congestive heart failure, and has been treated for almost a year now.
she has improved over that year, but this was a real setback.. ali called me today with amazing news.

Why would God be racist?
by mankkeli inin the old testament, can you think of any conceivable reason that an all knowing all powerful god might logically select one small desert tribe in the desert to be his "chosen" people, and leave all the other races of the world out?
isn't that a bit racist?
i mean, he did not choose chinese people, or african people, he specifically chose the jews, and at least as far as i've seen in the narrative, he pretty much lets them treat everyone else however they like.. .

So-and-so is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses
by wannabefree inwith all of the legal mumbo jumbo and technicalties that the organization uses (recently brought to light in the australian case), i couldn't help but wonder what power the "no longer one of jehovah's witnesses" really has or even means from a technical standpoint, since the organization is so technical.
we know what it means when the announcement is made, but in reality, so-and-so never really belonged to any of the groups in the first place.
the law says that association or membership is voluntary, therefore the organization has the right to expel and shun someone for not following the guidelines expected of members.. what are the rank and file members of?.

What exactly are men at the back of the hall taking care of?
by howdidtihappen inonce people have come in, and the doorman and the mic men are in place, why are there a few other suits scattered about at the back?
i saw a guy get up, sit down, get up, sit down, get up and when i looked what he was up to he was reading the noticeboard and looking around, waiting for a bus.
i figured he wasn't doing much at that point, but anything to not stay seated.

Is logic really the best way to decide things?
by mankkeli ini think that for many people, and i've noticed particularly for those coming out of religion, logic is held up as the ultimate tool for understanding the world, and non-logic-based methods are derided.
but even for those who accept a certain amount of intuition, emotion or other non-logical elements in their decision making processes, there is still a pervasive norm priviligeing logical over illogical thinking.. .
i question that, though.

Islam More Lenient on Apostates than the WTBTS!
by 00DAD inislam more lenient on apostates than the wtbts!.
this morning i came across this thought provoking comment in a cnn news article:.
harris zafar, national spokesperson of the ahmadiyya muslim community usa, does not mince words on the subject, stating in a huffington post opinion piece that "islam prescribes absolutely no punishment for apostasy.".
