Review and Comments on the New Elders Book
by MrDarkKnight ini recently completed an exhaustive review of an unofficial copy of the new elders manual.
my father, who is currently serving as an elder told me a friend of his in the service department told him it was on the internet so i eagerly looked for it and found it.
yes, i know it was a violation of copyright, but while at bethel i made copies of many technical manuals which is also a copy of copyright so the wts hypocrisy does not concern me.. i was appointed as an elder the year the pay attention book (manual replaced by this one) was released so i have very good working knowledge of the old book and could compare the two books.

I was an elder for 6 years or so. I went to the supplementery school meeting where they changed the "Loose Conduct" rule. It amazed me even then that they could be that ridiculous. Loose Conduct can include viewing porn - if it is nasty porn - playboy is OK .... but girl on girl is a no-no...
The new book is pretty much the same. Here is the book fron the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" that gives elders the right to do evil things to their fellow Christians and blame it on someone else. Although if you ask the Elders are ONLY acting as a local congregation nothing from the branch influences them - legally. Lawsuit protection built in.
I personally had a Judicial committee that went like this - Elders: Do you accept that the FDS in MATT is the governing body? ME: Yep / Elders: We find you guilty of Apostasy, but since you are repentant you will will be privately reproved.
I never was repentant, I never admitted to being an Apostate, I still don't understand how that meeting happened the way it did. Tho I know you cannot appeal a private reproof only disfellowshipping is appealable. F***ing crazy.
Nothings changed...

This is no different than an employee in a grocery store refusing to sell alcohol. Guess what - you can't be a cashier. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs and to stand up for them. Also they should receive the consequences. If your job changes you either get a new job or you change.

Why Some Cannot "See" that the Bible is NOT the Word of God
by AGuest into the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you all have peace.
some of you may have recently observed some discussions regarding what... or rather, who... the word of god is, truly.
in those and other threads, some participants weren't able to grasp the difference between discussion vs. contention... and defending their own faith... and love of god and christ... vs. ramming their [mis]assumptions as to the "vengeance of god"... down others' throats.

Not to be on topic here about the bible ,,,, but..
I have long felt that Christians put an unreasonable demand on the Bible. They often say it is the Word of God, it is inspired, it is infallable. The scriptures themselves DO NOT MAKE THIS CLAIM. The opinion of one man writing a letter to his friend Timothy is the basis of this nonsense. I think Paul was a man trying to do his best, however he nowhere claims HIS writings are inspired scripture. Luke was writing a history that he had to gather from other sources hell - he told us he was NOT inspired. (Luke and Acts). The ONLY NT book that claims inspiration is Revelation..... a book written 60,70, 100 years after Christ died? In the very first Scripture list is was given the same place as the Apocalypse of Peter. (Muratorian fragment c. 100a.d.) In 100 they didn't HAVE a bible. "The Shepherd of Hermes" was a more accepted book than many they accept today.
For me the beleif goes - Creator provides spark of life and conciousness of man. Something the Genesis account represents VERY loosely. Beyond that - I think it is possible - even Likely that the law was from God or at least created under his influence. Thus the revealed god.
Was Jesus a heavenly personage transfered to human life or a man adopted to be THE son of God? Not sure - evidence is lacking. If Jesus spoke to me directly would I even know it? Would I go get medicated as a psychotic or would I think I was chosen? Not sure honestly.
Guess it is all part of the Journey but I would love some input Shelby.

The "system" gained $50 that is what happened. You can go chop down trees on land you own if you want or you can pay professionals to do it more efficiently. It is a society that works together. If Jim is a used car salesman and he sells a car to Frank and makes a $200 commission ......... that's capitalism. YOUR work, knowledge, training, ability, etc... all have value.
Without capitalism it is like 6 year old soccer - we don't keep score - everybody wins. Which really means nobody wins. I

The Real Issues Facing former Jehovah's Witnesses
by AllTimeJeff inon internet forums such as these, it is to be expected that there will be people who want to save jw's.
esp from (thinking for) themselves.. however, the real dillema's facing an ex jw who leaves, whether on their own terms or being disfellowshipped are real and haven't changed.. .
lonliness, how to make friends, is a big issue.. fear, esp fear based on superstition, a fear of god and of the future that is not in any way based in proveable fact.. education, how to think and reason critically to avoid being taken advantage of is a big challenge.. love, sex, and how to navigate your way around all of that hot mess.. geez, yeah, forgot.

Thanks. I sometimes forget what you said here, My JW training makes me want to debate every little point I can. My own personality lends itself to being an A-hole sometimes. The people on this site have been awesome. My experience is not as bad as many here, but it would be much more difficult without everybody here. Thanks again.

PTN -Welcome. Hopefully you can find some peace here.
My wife has accepted me after a few years of tension. I still go to some meetings, memorial, and convention, but she understands it is a Family thing for me not spiritual. I have never tried to change her mind about being a witness, but she asks me what I'm thinking and I tell her. What about 586? What about what Russell taught about Armageddon? 1874? 144,000? Most witnesses will admit they are not sure about many JW points if confronted with them, but it must be very subtle. Asking for advice on this forum is a great way to get started.
Peace to you

Welcome and thanks for posting. I am still in so no "shunning" officially, but since people know i'm not at meetings or whatever thay treat me very differently. Like I have some plague or something.
We understand and we accept you whatever you do or don't believe. We've been there done that in the pain department.
