Children and fairy tale monsters
by jgnat ini was sorting through my favorite quotes tonight, and this one floated to the top:.
"fairy tales don't teach children that monsters exist.
children already know that monsters exist.

My parents would not let me read those so I have gone back and read this as an adult. It takes a lot of the fun out of it ,though.
gnat, nice to see you online. you have pm.

Why are you here, Bane?
by dgp ini was wondering.
not that i have anyone in mind (except for bane).
what motivates an active and zealous jehovah's witness to come to a website like this one and insult everyone for being apostates, et cetera?
-
Violia
Bane you are going to be so embarassed when another "true witness of jehovah" rats you out to the elders and prints all the stuff you have posted here. They are not going to let you count this time, you know.
Are you going to be the bane of our existence?
Bane I am here b/c the wts is not God's org. I don't think He has one.

I think a rouge individual could do this. The Wts would probably be glad to use whatever info they were given , but I agree with another poster- they tend to avoid things not confront them. During the mid 90's when the net was just really getting going ( think AOL) there was a bro passing around a list of email address's of known apostates on the net. I doubt the elders told him to do that -he just did it himself. I once was in possession of that list but it's gone now. How fun that would be to be able to post that. He'd have been on his own if he got caught.
Agree with above posters, no real jws would be here on this or any other jw/xjws discussion board.( unless they already had serious doubts about the org ).

I think some are being a bit rough on our thread starter. I think he meant what he said, suppose what is happening now ends up in some holy book and becomes the new Sodom and Gomorrah.

First impressions:
It reiminds me of the anti abortion material.
It has an agenda that smacks of propaganda.
It reminds me of the way the WTS twists things.

Instrucitons for using the toilet at the convention (pic)
by maninthemiddle inthis was posted in the men's room stall, i hear the instructions in the womens room was more detailed.. this was in addition to having a "bathroom attendant" handing out 1 paper towel per person.. i haven't felt so childish since i was in grade schooll, i had to wonder if all the tall people around me were really grown men and women.. .

Ugh I recall the paper over the mirrors too. I too would rip some of it off but you had to be careful b/c they had female attendants who looked like bouncers. I would have been afraid to rip the paper off in their presence. I did the next best thing, I would pull out my compact and primp in the bathroom anyway. So it defeated their purpose, eg ,to not have women standing around primping.
Recall a Seinfeld eposide where Elaine was in a bathroom stall that was out of TP and she asked the woman in next stall and she said" I haven't got a square to spare" lol too funny.

Russell Was an End-Times Dispensationalist
by snowbird ini've been reading some of russell's works and have reached the following conlcusion: russell brought nothing new to the table; he was influenced heavily by the second adventists; his movement seems to have grown too large and unwieldy for him to handle.. what a pity!.

I believe the 7th day adventists come from those adventists you mention. Their beliefs are very similar to ours. I think they practice DF and shunning too. I once had a doc who was an adventist and he had to deliver my baby on his sabbath( saturday). He actually mentioned it to me. ( how dare I go into labor on the sabbath). He was an elder ( or whatever they call themselves) and he'd counsel me when I visited him,if he felt I needed it. Never get away with that now,but it was another day and time.
Russell was just another of the turn of the century end of time religions and we all have had our lives drastically altered by his wonderful insights.

Is it really so that some people here became Catholic after leaving the Borg?
by gubberningbody inwow.. unbelievable.. .

Moshe is right - pick your poison. Some ramdon thoughts in no particular order:
I know it sounds sort of air heady, but I like the catholic church b/c of the rituals and pomp and cermony. It is something I can actually see. If the religion asks me to do more than attend on Sunday , lead a decent life, and help others in need, that is more than I want. I would be very happy with a religion that just concentrated on helping their fellow man rather than preaching . After being a jw all those years I could never join another high control religion, which includes all those he mentioned and also includes any of the chruch of christ & pentacostal etc types and 7th day adventist & Islamic. The catholic church may have been a high control religion at one time but the pope is just a figure head now. I have been told that the Methodist church is sort of religion lite. Jews have it easy too, you do not even have to attend temple to be one of them. You can be a secular jew and just say shalom and show up once a year and you are still a part of the group. ( I have been told they don't really like converts though).I also find the Wiccans and other so called new agey religions good, but for congergational value you may be happier with a standard religion.
I also think it depends where you live. In the southern usa people seem to take their religion more seriously and small towns are tough if you do not attend somewhere. There are some seriously mean Baptists in my area ( our town just went wet recently). Some of these people are almost as crazy as jws. However, jws still are the king of crazy due to shunning and the blood doctrine and not allowing voting and military service.
Any religion that teaches basic moral principles and helps it fellow man is probably ok, just avoid those that feel they have the only true religion and damn others to any form of hell , or practice shunning in any form. I feel God I probably ok with any way you worship Him as long as you do not hurt others in the process.

I actually think you may be right about the usage of certain terms, like dub and even JW. I used to use them prior to my leaving as I had heard them used in my extended family. I was told that the term JW is not one they use and they find it offensive.
I do not think I know more than Jehovah or Jesus. I still accept the Bible as God's word. I just do not believe that the governing body speaks for Jehovah. I can read and do read my Bible. Reading my Bible ( not the Watchtower) is actually what helped set me free.
