I've been reading some of Russell's works and have reached the following conlcusion: Russell brought nothing new to the table; he was influenced heavily by the Second Adventists; his movement seems to have grown too large and unwieldy for him to handle.

    What a pity!

I believe the 7th day adventists come from those adventists you mention. Their beliefs are very similar to ours. I think they practice DF and shunning too. I once had a doc who was an adventist and he had to deliver my baby on his sabbath( saturday). He actually mentioned it to me. ( how dare I go into labor on the sabbath). He was an elder ( or whatever they call themselves) and he'd counsel me when I visited him,if he felt I needed it. Never get away with that now,but it was another day and time.

Russell was just another of the turn of the century end of time religions and we all have had our lives drastically altered by his wonderful insights.

According to Wikipedia: The denomination grew out of the Millerite movement in the United States during the middle part of the 19th century and was formally established in 1863.

I once worked with a 7th Day Adventist lady; she didn't celebrate Christmas or New Year's. We made an interesting pair!

    LOL.
