Original Sin

it seems to be generally assumed that the "original sin" was the act of disobedience.

so what's so bad about wanting to raise your intellect?

did our creators intend for us to just be like the dumb beasts?

WT--you have a way of putting things that absolutely makes me cringe sometimes... BUT I do get your points..........how do we really view God in light of what He did in the Hebrew scriptures? He seems to be a bloody, vengeful God. But then that changes in a lot of ways in the Greek Scriptures.......I've tried to ask different religious men that question. I get the typical "well you have to have faith" answer. I tell them that it's not a good enough answer.

Cameo---I can't imagine a perfect world. We all have free will. How could anyone actually be perfect and have free will?

And in my travels of research such as with the bible books that were excluded from most translations, maybe Adam and Eve are a symbol or a parable?????

Been there done that and have the T-shirt with the Peace and Security thing, They did it in 1986-87. So no running back to "mama".

As far as the economy goes all we can do is hang on tight and hope for the best. My parents made it through the Depression. And the Depression was worldwide. If they can do it, we can do it.

Nothing is ever guaranteed in this life. It's a crap shoot.

Gill--you're right......the US doesn't even own the US anymore......

Big stick(gun?) and hope for the future is required.......

A CLEAR definition of "higher education"

yesterday i went to the saturday segment of the two day circuit assembly.

the brother giving the talk wanted to make sure that all in attendance understood clearly what the watchtower's definition of "higher education" was.

this is not verbatim, but this is as clear as i can remember it.

It's just a load of BS that they are STILL down on education!! Especially in this economy when everyone needs all the help they can get to just live not to mention a retirement.

Thank God I didn't listen. I have over 100 credit hours in two different majors, a decent job AND a retirement!!!!!!!!!!!! And a part time job too that will be available to me when I retire. Hmmmm I was blessed in spite of the organization!!!!! Guess it's a good thing I was rebellious!!!!!

They promote these service jobs such as house cleaning and those are the first jobs to go in a shakey economy. Who's going to pay someone to clean house when they have to buy groceries instead????????????

Is this normal?!

i'm one of those ones who drifted away before getting to heavily in...thank god...but upon arrival in my new house i found a letter, a hand written letter in my letterbox from a local witness saying they had called around a few times and no one had been in, had a special message etc etc and gave an address which is a kingdom hall should the residents wish to contact her.

is it usual to write such a long hand written letter??

i think it's a bit strange.

In Michigan they just tried to uphold sex offender registry for a man who went to prison for molesting a sheep.

Go to Michigan Department of Corrections website...select OTIS...search the name Jeffrey Haynes. The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled he didn't have to register since the victim is not a human.

reading steve hassan's books has brought to mind the many ways jehovah's witnesses use fear and guilt catch phrases to keep the rank and file members from leaving the cult and gaining their freedom.

see if you recognize some of these and if they produce fear or guilt.

" you have to keep up with the latest truths or you'll be left behind if you don't keep up with jehovah's organization and new light .

A big one that always got me was "age of accountability". That's what my Dad used when I misbehaved at a meeting.(when I was 7-8 yrs old) That I was old enough to know better and that I could be destroyed at Armaggedon based on my own merit.

I still have a vivid memory of crying jags on that one.

yesterday i had lunch with my parents.

now for as long as i can remember, my mom especially has had the mindset of armaggedon being right around the corner, any minute now, etc.. now......they are talking that "things are some years" away now.. is there another change in the works?

instead of it being imminent now it's years away???

And no I didn't ask them because I didn't want to get into the big "discussion". (I was afraid of what I might say and I don't want to alienate my parents)

you on the right disagree with roe v wade... so that means that you want to redefine when a zygote, embryo, or a fetus has what anyone would rule for lack of better words "the right to life"... .

exactly when is life, human as per your definition?

I personally believe that life begins at conception. That being said....I do NOT feel I have the right to tell someone else what to do. So where, I do not agree with abortion, I would not push my views on anyone else. I have this abhorance for people who push their beliefs on me(JW's!!) so I try not to do it to someone else.

So I guess that makes me in the middle of the right and left(did that sound right?)

in getting out of the jehovah's witnesses cult - are we all aware of what was totally involved in the mind control they used ?

in steve hassan's " releasing the bonds " he gets into some variables of mind control in detail.

i thought you would enjoy a few of these main points.

I just ordered Steve Hassan's book on cults. I'm really looking forward to reading it cover to cover. I'm sure I'll be even more frustrated by what I see as illogical behavior in my parents. The pat phrases like, "light getting brighter", "Jehovah providing", "meat in due season" etc that just roll out when they are questioned.

I hope it has some research on how super intelligent, strong willed people can be so taken in by a cult.

Mr Flipper as always I really enjoy reading your posts.
