Pop Psychology - warning
by Uzzah infor the past few months i have found myself biting my tongue at what i have been observing with some participants on jwd.
please keep in mind i have been around since noah on these boards (circa 1997) and have watched several trends and people come and go over the years.. i am not seeking approval, support or anything other than expressing a personal observation.. every once in a while an egoist appears on the ex-jw boards.
more often than not a former elder who feels they continue to hold some sort of special wisdom that they must proclaim to the masses.

These days you hear alot of talk in the borg that persecution will break out in the USA. "Don't think it won't happen here," says the speaker, "We Americans have it too easy. Satan will target us too." I recall stories of persecution in the USA from the past. But do you think it was because the message was much more confrontational then? I mean let's face it the way the preaching is done now has been toned down way more than it was decades ago. In the past records were played blaring loudly in the streets and the message was that "religion is a snare and a racket." Seems like they were just asking for a fight to break out back then.

it was about half an hour discussion but what follows is the highlights that i remember most vividly.. it begins with a once a upon a time pioneer partner of my wife (h4o) coming in to the atm.. jw says....how are things going?

why do jw look down on someone going to college?
by jetery ini wil never forget how when i graduated from high school in 1988 i had the opportnity to go to college.
all expenses paid.
my dad didnt approve of it and he was so emotionally abusive that i didnt go because i was told that i had to pioneer.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I struggled for years when I first got out of high school- and I was an honor student. Thank God I went back to school anyway. What I do isn't my dream job but I've damn sure had worse jobs that paid way less. I just wish I could have gone to school for what I really like- and by God I may go back and do it too!

i wonder if they really believe that or if they're trying to make themselves feel better.
or maybe it's a tactic to influence the sheep away from the "evil slave".

one suggestion is to not be picky about the kind of work you do.
to reinforce this it shows a picture of a guy working over 3 stories in the air looking very vulnerable (i kid you not).

This is SOUND advice? You've gotta see this pic! It's in the Oct 15 2005 WT page 10. As Groucho Marx said a fall from this height would be a heckuva bounce.

I know an elder with a myspace page. Of course he has no pics of himself and doesn't use his real name. Come to think of it he was the one who always let me borrow subversive magazines like Rolling Stone in my youth. Way cool guy. I wonder what really goes on in his head.
