No Internet for Afghan Muslims
by Gopher inanother religious group is now attempting to restrict internet usage by its members.
this news item appeared today (friday july 13).. afghanistan's ruling taliban movement has banned the use of the internet in the war-torn country to stop access to vulgar, immoral and anti-islamic material, an afghan news service said on friday.. the pakistan-based afghan islamic press (aip) quoted taliban foreign minister maulvi wakil ahmad muttawakil as saying the movement was not against the internet as such but was opposed to obscenity, vulgarity and anti-islamic ``stuff'' on it.. ``we want to establish a system in afghanistan through which we can control all those things that are wrong, obscene, immoral and against islam,'' he said.. the ban also applies to government departments, aip said.. it was not immediately known how many people or offices use the internet in a country in which infrastructure is in ruins because of more than two decades of war.
there are not many computers and most of areas do not have electricity.. those who can afford to, including foreign aid agencies, log onto the internet through the few telephone lines provided by neighboring pakistan.

JW walks away from job; files complaint
by Gopher inraymond jones filed a complaint after having angrily stalked off his job during the 1998 holiday season, never to return, at a shoppers drug mart in vancouver, british columbia, because his boss told him to set up artificial poinsettias in a seasonal display, which he took as a directive to support the abhorrent idea of "christmas" (he is a jehovah's witness).
as published in the minneapolis "star-tribune" of march 29, 2001.

Are they looking for "Rice Christians"?
by Gopher ini'm trying to get a clear "take" on this:.
the wts has often implied that their form of missionary work, concentrating on "preaching and teaching", is superior to that of christendom's.
christendom often starts out by bringing food supplies, hospitals and the like, supposedly "enticing" the natives with material goodies.
