For me it was relatively simple since I was inadvertently fading for a while and have minimal ties in the Borg:
1) HAD to get to some level of agreement with my wife. At first it was affecting our relationship very badly, but as we worked it thru (and she learned the truth herself but for now stays in due to friends) we at least can meet in the middle and have a good relationship.
2) Visiting this site really helped me disconnect from the WTS mindset, and it was very necessary especially in the beginning. Now I have this paradox, because I want to forget about it all, and just move on, which means I need to visit JWD less often (just so I can mentally move on). However, I keep getting drawn to JWD daily. Could be worse :)
3) Get better relationships with non-Witness friends (hate the term 'worldly').
Otherwise, I've pretty much moved on... but I still think about it all almost daily, which I guess why I'm still visiting JWD regularly. It's not THAT easy to disconnect.

And this was the one religion in 1919 that Jesus chose to be his true representative. Pretty crazy, eh?

How did you find this site?
by truthseeker init seems as though an age has passed from discovering this site seven years ago to where i am now.
just before we started studying the daniel's prophecy book, i went online to see if anyone had made a study bookmark with the dates and paragraphs on.
i "stumbled" across this site, way back in 2000. of course, like a good christian i pretty much determined that this site had gone apostate from the other jw sites, such.

In my early 'getting out' of the WTS, I came to the conclusion that I'm an Atheist. I found it very strange that a former JW could be an Atheist, as it seems to go from one extreme to the other. So I did some Yahoo searches for people's experiences turning from JW to Atheist. Well, very quickly I found this site with many people with VERY similar experiences.
Gotta love open communication over the Internet! The FDS must fear this SO much. -

Don't bother recycling ... God will fix the earth
by 10p inhttp://www.watchtower.org/e/20031122a/article_03.htm
just browsing the site for kicks, and this annoyed me.
typical jw attitude - with the readership they supposedly have, they could have made a real difference ... encouraged all jw's to recycle, buy carefully etc.

This is an example where I feel like the destruction of the earth (or the people on it) is a self-fulfilling prophesy. If enough people on the Earth believe their myths, they will have a short-term view on things. Why recycle? Why conserve? Why not deforest? Who cares about the oceans? None of it matters if the Earth will soon be destroyed/replaced.
This more importantly includes those in power. Bush is a strong Evangelical with this view, and notice his short-term view on everything. Those Muslim/terrorist leaders also have a similar view. And I know that 99% of Muslims are peaceful, but the ones who are not, can do a lot of damage.
So if enough people inadvertently want the Earth to be destroyed, we just likely may make it happen. -

Of course, any event that cannot be rationally explained MUST be a miracle from God!

praying before a meal
by megaflower ini have stopped.
it brings up too many memorys of having some elder pray for the cong before we partook of any food.
it just seemd like a big production, all would gather around and bow heads in silence while some senior male gave thanks- no more- no thanks
-

I agree. When I used to pray before a meal, I would do it intentionally where no one would even know I was praying. I felt it so hypocritical to see those Witnesses bow their heads and get any kind of attention. I didn't care if anyone thought I didn't pray. That being said, this is no longer an issue :)

Repudiate "Valueless Things" 4/15/08 WT
by bud2114 inhot off the presses - just some of the latest garbage coming out of brooklyn as found in the 1st study article - repudiate "valueless things" (4/15/08 koolaid edition wt): .
par 17: another example of valueless words is found among the religious leaders of christendom.
these claim to speak in god's name, but most of their utterances are not based on the scriptures, and what they have to say is basically worthless.

I feel the more they reminding people of avoiding apostasy, and not questioning the truth, at some point people will wonder "what are they hiding?". It looks bad when the WTS tries SO hard to cover something up, and that will arouse some curiosity, at least out of some people.
These reminders could implode and actually make people want to look up what the apostates are saying, because if this is the Truth, what can they be saying that's so bad? -

By what age can a child be indoctrinated?
by jwfacts inmy step daughter went to the memorial, which is her first meeting in many months.
a 7 year old girl came up to her and asked if she is baptised and when will she get baptised.. my sister has a 4 year old daughter.
when she was introduced to another 4 year old one question she asked was "does he love jehovah.".

How exactly did the C.O. work up to this? Did you hear from your wife whether or not the dubs actually did it?
The talk started with an illustration. CO asked a few kids what they wanted to be when they grew up. One said doctor, one said teacher, then he approached a 4-year old and she said "I want to be a pioneer". And the audience were all "awwe".
Of course this was an illustration, and not a real event.
But he apparantely was very specific about the adults asking the kids about their goals, and that the kids should answer 'pioneer' and from what I hear, they all did it.
I'm glad my kids were not there!

We had our last CO visit a few weeks ago. I didn't go since I'm fading, so I stayed home with the kids, LOL. Wife went.
But the CO had a talk directed at the youth, basically what are your plans. They said it should be pioneering and general work in the faith (surprise surprise).
After the meeting all adults were to ask the kids what their plans were, and all kids were supposed to respond "pioneer". Talk about brainwashing and indoctrination!
