The Bible - all heart (and kidneys), but no brains.
by Awakened07 in- the topic title is a little 'tabloid' i'll admit, but actually more literal than you'd think:.
a thought - or should i say memory - from my active jw days came to me, and that was the often mentioned 'fact' that jehovah is the god who "tries our heart and kidneys".
this was a very common expression used at meetings while i was growing up.

Could field service turn into an "enemy" of the WBTS?
by Awakened07 inat least in western countries?
and if so - how will they solve it?
has it already started to happen?.

Time for a new great schism, apostasy, falling away, dissension?
by Awakened07 in"nineteen fourteen - nineteen schmorsteen" ?.
we've had some threads about this, but it seems the general consensus is that they cannot change the 1914 date - it is what the entire organization rests it's doctrine on.. but why do we say that, really?
at one time (and for many, many years), the years 1799 and 1874 were pivotal dates to the bible students.

The amazing, magical self-healing house of cards!
by Awakened07 ini remember when i still believed, that if i would come across a teaching or some piece of news that didn't gel with what i already believed, and the evidence or logical reasoning for it was so strong that i was "pushed into a corner", i would think (or even say) "yeah, well - all the other things are still there, which i base my faith on.
so while i concede this point, there's still enough there for me to continue believing.".
sounds reasonable enough at first.

-How did you envision the FDS and GB did their work?
by Awakened07 inthe weird thing is - i almost can't recall what i once believed about the fds and gb ["faithful and discreet slave" and "governing body"], who they in fact were, and how they came to their conclusions and 'revelations'.. come to think of it, i think that was because i was conditioned to not ever question them, because to question them would be to question the organization, and to question the organization was to question jesus and jehovah.. but i've been trying to 'dig into' my brain to see if i can remember how i as an active jw saw them:.
- i believed them to be inspired, just not in the same 'degree' (?
) as the biblical writers were.

-A quick thought on birthdays.
by Awakened07 inthis thought just occurred to me:.
we all - even jehovah's witnesses - mourn our loved ones when they die.
we cry and wail, with good reason.

A spiritual journey - but how?
by Awakened07 inas i've said a billion (well - at least ten, lol) times here before, i consider myself an atheist that wouldn't mind believing in a god if sufficient grounds to do so were presented to me.. as such, i have been toying with the idea of going on a spiritual journey, to see what i could find.
i was for a time thinking of making a thread here - in all seriousness and sincerity - where i would let you take part in several (possibly, unless i found what i was looking for right away) such steps, in which i would first 'test' the episcopalian (and some other christians') approach and sincerely ask jesus to enter my heart as my saviour and so on.
and that if i indeed experienced something from it, so be it - i would have to accept it and live by it.

"-And your *personality* will be your salvation" ?
by Awakened07 ini remember thinking about this when i was still active, but was starting to doubt things i guess:.
-i had some friends that were naturally very outgoing and 'vibrant', and loved to conduct talks, loved the field ministry, loved pioneering and so on.
very upbeat, very energetic all the time, both "on- and off-the jw -'clock' ".

Christians: Why are we here (earth) in the first place?
by Awakened07 inanother thread here reminded me of something i used to wonder about while i was still an active jw, and haven't really thought about until now that i was reminded of it again.. - this is probably a very banal question, but (the premise comes first):.
-god created a myriad of angels in heaven before he created our universe and earth, right?.
-and - except for those who rebelled - they are all still up there, right?.

Those of you who remained religious after leaving JWs:
by Awakened07 ini was just curious how that transition was?
did you simply start attending some other church right away?
if so, how did you choose which church to attend?
