Hello Jacobi ! Welcome to the board ! . As Desirous said we aren't near as judgmental as JW's here. I was born into the JW's and escaped at age 44 back years ago. I also lean to the left politically so you are not alone- there are some of us here on this board. Take care friend, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

New here...
by Jacobi inmy name is jacobi, i am a born-in but mentally out for more or less a decade at this point (although it was cradual) and about 40yo.
i don't want to say a lot about my family, but it is a mix of going-through-the-motions, semi-actives (but mentally in), some who have left for a few reasons and one really depressed pioneer.
because people fade in and out i have managed to slide under the radar and i keep up apperances of not being all-out apostate but i completed my fade about years ago (it also helped i moved to another part of the country).. i might rub some of you the wrong way because of my views on different things like politics.. i am not a trump supporter at all and neither are most people in my country.

Eulogies
by redundantcartworker ini recently attended a non jw funeral at a local church.
during the service, a couple of friends/relatives of the deceased eloquently spoke for a few minutes about the deceased with some of their fond memories and gave heartfelt, respectful tributes.. would i ( a non jw) be given a few minutes to speak at either of my jw parents funerals at the kingdom hall ?.
i guess i already know the answer, but if the answer is "no", then why not and how would they hide the heartlessness of refusing ?

I went to a funeral years ago of a close friend who had become inactive, stopped attending meetings. The elders wouldn't allow his family to have a kingdom hall funeral - so his non-JW family had his funeral at a neutral building where they have services for funerals and about 10 different people took turns ; including myself getting up in front of the crowd ( probably 200 people about half JW's / half non-JW's ) speaking about my friend who had died and remembering his humor and good qualities .
There were a fair number of elders in the room including the ones who wouldn't allow his funeral at a kingdom hall . My friend had told me before he died that he was upset that those same elders never took the time to pay attention or call on his older teenage kids or take an interest in them. So in my eulogy - I made sure to reference that point by saying " before my friend died he was concerned that some people here -elders here were not paying enough attention to his dear two children. " I continued, " The best way we can honor and remember our friend is by making sure we pay attention to them now or continue to see how they are doing. "
But it was a great atmosphere of various folks giving out warm memories of my friend and talking about humorous times. If the WT Society would stop being so emotionally constipated and make funerals more about the person who died instead of marketing WT information- these funerals would be much more enjoyable, or at least bearable. But the WT Society is a cold hearted organization - won't ever happen

The book burning has started
by pale.emperor indon't know if this is a global thing but i've just been told by a pimo member of my old congregation that a min servant has been given the task of destroying all old books/literature in the kh library prior to 1992.. could be the elders (or even one of them) on a mission to stamp out dissent as my ex-wife used the same reasoning to her elder dad that i used in my jc: rutherfords books containing failed predictions.. anyone else heared anything?.
the ms who's been given the task is a company man.
no hope of him keeping them or selling them on ebay.. they have some russell books in that library too.

It's 1984 George Orwell style all over again. WT Society attempting to burn and incinerate their history so nobody finds out their mistakes . Really creepy

Sister may have had a slight heart attack, do I text her?
by Xanthippe inso my cousin phoned and told me my jw sister was taken to hospital with chest pains and it may have been a slight heart attack or possibly she's starting with angina.
now as some of you know my sisters and brother have had little to do with me for 29 years.
we've met at funerals, or arranged them, but i just thought today what if she did die?

XANTHIPPE- Thanks for your update. I'm so glad that your sisters response went better than you could have expected . It brought tears to my eyes because I found out yesterday that my older JW sister who shunned me for years is going through the same thing your sister is. I chatted with her as she finally answered the phone . We just never know what might shock a JW relative to their senses and cause them to be nicer to us or at least less vitriolic in the past. Stay tuned for my thread this morning on another thread. You handled this beautifully my friend. You've opened up a door of communication with your sister. That's huge ! Hang in there, take care, Peace out, Mr. Flipper -

LOVEUNI- If you're a Anthony Hopkins fan a couple movies we have with him that I totally recommend watching are : " Instinct " with Anthony Hopkins & Cuba Gooding Jr. and another titled " The Human Stain " with Anthony Hopkins, Nicole Kidman, Gary Sinise, and Ed Harris- riveting drama . Those two movies are really good. Both keep you on the edge of your seat . Take care, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Welcome to all the newbies and lurkers that have joined this forum lately.
by smiddy3 ini`m sure you have all noticed the ever increasing number of newbies and lurkers who have visited this site over the past months and i am sure we could all collectively welcome them to this site and support them on learning the ttatt .
and helping them to navigate how they can look up older publications and quotes of the wtb&ts that they would rather remain hidden.. we all know jehovah`s witnesses /governing body never apologizes for mistakes they make they just don`t mention them anymore and explain it away as new light from god.. actually a big cop out.. welcome to all you who are new to this site .. every day their seems to be someone new posting which is great .. and if this is any indication of what is happening in all other ex jw sites the wtb&ts are in deep trouble .

Great thread Smiddy, thanks for posting it. Indeed a warm welcome to all of you who have escaped the high control Jehovah's Witnesses organization or anybody else new here as well. You are among folks here who have experienced similar unjust actions that you might have experienced. We're here as a support to you and offer kindness and a soft landing spot for however long you need it. Hang in there, Peace out, Mr. Flipper
