  my friend's son and daughter-in-law are jehova's witnesses.

  i know they do not celebrate birthdays, but is it ok to give them gifts during the year that are not for a specific occasion?

  also, i bought a little ceramic figurine of an angel that was personalized with their infant daughter's name on it.

  sure, a gift for no reason is fine...as well as a new baby gift (they don't seem to think that conflicts with the no birthday rule for some reason) wedding gifts are fine, as well as graduation and anniversary gifts.

  The angel...well, when I was a witness I think I would have accepted it, and they may. Some witnesses are a little more strict than others.

  Mothers and Fathers day, Valentine day and xmas gifts are all out of course...as well as easter gifts and candy...I personal do not understand why people gift easter gifts....candy sure, but not gifts

  anybody go to another church yet?

  having left 18 months ago .

  i still feel a spiritual need in the way that i do beleive there is a creator and after having done a lot of research on bible arecheaology i beleive the bible is correct.

  however we have been taught so much dogma amongst christianity have any of you got to the point yet of going to any other religious meeting.

  There is a Unitarian universalist church around the corner that i really want to go to...but something always stops me from going..for a while a various family member was sick, or I was away....this past Sunday I have to admit I was too lazy to get out of bed...

  I really do want to go, but am a little nervous because according to their site you are supposed to make a financial pledge, and I am a little leary about that. I would give at the KH when I could, but no one knew what I did or did not give, so I was not worried about. I am all for giving to the church that you attend...if you get something out you should put something in to keep it going...but it is wierd thinking about it as a bill...know what I mean?

  My husband has been out of town a lot too, sometimes over the weekend. I feel wierd about dropping by a new church with 4 kids from 2 to 12 in tow. But I really want to go, it is a bummer not knowing many people down here.

  i knew of a couple that left their mates so that they could be with one another.

  the elders promptly disfellowshipped them.

  the couple made it known immediately, that they were going to apply for reinstatement as soon as possible.

  Personally, I think most adulterors should be tied to a stake be covered with syrup and then fire ants.

  and then have rubbing alcohol poured over them...and then be set on fire. but allowed to live, death is to good for them...again this is for most...I am not that cold hearted

  So I don't think asking them to go to a different hall was unreasonable at all. They should have done that before they were reinstated, and I think it would not kill them to stay in a different hall for a few years. Now, asking the couple to leave when they were there to see their kid's talk, no that is definately wrong.

  But yes, make them go to another hall. Personally, if it was well know they just figured they would be disfellowship and then apply for reinstatement right away, as if it was a formality, then damn straight, made them go through hoops. Again, I don't know the whole story on the couple, but with the little facts there are here that's my opinion.

  and how about that half time show...are all the jacksons' that nasty???.

  I don;'t understand her at all..she is very talented, but I really don't like much of anything she has put out the last 10 years.

  Its too bad. The only reason it irks me is because the superbowl is for the whole family..not much offends me on tv...for example I love that nasty cartoon the Family Guy, but refused to watch it when it aired on Fox because it was set at 7 or 8, when my little boy was watching tv. Now I love to watch it on adult swim on cartoon network...but it is on after 10PM.

  CBS should have never had the superbowl to begin with ...the coverage sucks, always has, always will.

  reeeeeal men of geniusss...

  here's to you, mr. eight-hour-publisher-man (mister eight-hour-publish-uhhh).... you knock on doors every saturday at 10:00 am knowing that you will only be greeted by a barking dog or a slamming door (slammed shut right in your faaace!)....

  you loyally and consistently get your eight hours per month in except for those months when the big guy upstairs blesses you with a 5-weekend month (but you're happy when it's only fourrr).... you will never be an elder.

  Need Advice From Abuse Victims or People Who Counsel Abusers

  My best JW's friend baby passed away

  he was only 5 months and 1 week old...he was not breathing when they woke up on wednesday, and they tried cpr, but it didnt work.....i am so sad for them.

  she was the sister that studied with me before i was baptised, and also the best friend i ever had, in or out of the jws.

  she moved away from about 4 years ago, and we had only spoken a few times on the phone since then.. a mutual friend of ours called me yesterday morning and told me.

  Thank you everyone...Mouthy, I am so sorry for your loss, thank you for sharing your advice especially.

  I think I will just keep it to a card and a few emails, and call her much later. They have a ton of friends, mostly jws of course, but they usualy touch everyone they meet in some way, so I know the high school she teaches at will be reaching out as well.

  so i leafed through some of the old books and found the old yellow "your word is a lamp to my foot.

  " on the last is "a record of christian baptism" (see below).
