i just want to say something which the vast majority of jw's who are active, fading , hard-core, doubting or what have you who don't know about malawi and mexico.
i'm just ''over generalizing'' by saying the above, about most jw's who don't know about the mexico/malawi scandal.
i strongly encourage any jw who is doubting or ''wondering'' about this ''organization'' to browse jwfacts.com.. just watched the john cedars rebuttal of the 2018 regional convention the sunday program.
As l was waiting for the ax to fall after l sent the elders a letter, l read Crisis of Conscience. That piece of hypocrisy you mention was stunning. That the Malawi brothers and sisters endured all that you said while the GB gave the Mexican Witnesses an “out”.
WHY?
Every piece of teaching their WTBS sent out was to convince us of the non-negotiable integrity of the organization.
Everything was absolute. Absolutely no blood -absolutely no birthdays -no holidays no association with unbelievers or churches -absolutely absolutely everything.
But they were absolutely inconsistent about this. And people died and were raped and were tortured.
Evil. Absolutely.
it seems that many believe that a liberal in the usa must be a democrat, pretty much following the party core teachings and some even think it means approving the party history of, during the 19th century, supporting or tolerated slavery and opposing civil rights reforms after the civil war.
some even insist that a liberal loves anything and everything obama did..
balderdash!!.
People are people and they don't typically fit nicely into broad categories.—OTWO
Well, your thread is still right-side up, OTWO. Your reminder above is necessary for respectful give-and- take.
More specifically, the proslavery South was Democrat until recently, now is Republican. Am I supposed to believe that Southerners have become enlightened by switching parties. I don't think so. Racist views remain for generations and have very little to do with Democrat or Republican labels.—neverajw
good point
the only thing that makes sense, is for people to vote regardless of political parties, and start voting based on individual character, competency and position on issues.—redvip
I wish.

Good try OTWO.
I wish there were a way to talk about issues without someone checking to see your political card, your “team”.
I don’t wear a football jersey when l just want to punt an idea around with others on the forum.
there was a talk i heard recently given by a top bethel bro, he was complaining that the type of young jws that have been joining bethel in recent years has been totally unfit for work or even life.
he called them "cotton wool jws" as he says that the parents of these young ones have kept them so sheltered from life that by the time they are of age to strike out on their own they are completely unable to cope socially, emotionally, mentally and that they have no practical life's skills or instincts of common sense or responsibility.
he said that the brothers at bethel have to work at peeling off the layers of cotton wool these ones have come wrapped in and that often when exposed to the reality of life away from mummy they quite literally go running back home.. for once i actually agree with a brother on the platform, i've met many a young teen or young adult whose life has been one long warm bath as it were.
This cotton-wool comment sounds like a complaint l heard from a young brother who returned home from Bethel: “biggest problem is finding young guys who really know how to work hard. “ l believe he said they let some fellows go home because they couldn’t cut it.
i really enjoy cooking but one thing i've never mastered is curry.
i've tried a few online recipes but they haven't turned out too well.
there's nothing better than a tried and tested, handed down ( or over!
Watching this space for recipe. I haven’t a clue how to make the magic
immersed in dickens and hawthorne, i cannot easily shake off the dusty antiquity of a bygone era.
however, its scant reality inhabits, not the present, but my sad hearkening back to the shadows of long ago.. hot blood pulses anew within fingers i thought stilled forever in a writer's graveyard of unwritten verse.
it is a reluctant awakening to a life much sadder than that endured by storybook friends who cannot see me, know me.. permit me, therefore, to reenter that precious twilight betwixt my present and the past, the faraway there of dearly departed poets.
That image you posted, if it were of myself, reflects the effort it took to let thoughts flow directly, without religious ox-bows that warped around forbidden impulses or perceptions. The floods of feelings l had were ever hitting snags piled up by regulations, the finger waggles of old holy men.
The muse avoids us when we post “no trespassing”signs to ward off our genuine feelings.
To create poetry —even fiction—as long as we are not lying to ourselves as we write.
Strong fiction tells truth.
l am fighting for truth now that l have left religion behind.
this article won’t change your mind - the facts on why facts alone can’t fight false beliefs.
brilliant article in the atlantic by julie beck discussing the phenomena of cognitive dissonance and how it affects religious and political beliefs.
it includes some interesting thoughts on how social media has magnified the problem.. spoiler - she is not optimistic about the possibility of successfully reasoning with members of religious cults.. the article also has a link to the 45 minute audio version.. link....
facts are important but it's our emotions that will sway us. —sparrowdown
not quite a week ago, @lost in the fog created a thread entitled: do you have this illness?.
https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5187824140681216/do-you-have-this-illness.
in my year of being on this forum, i have browsed many a disillusioned thread of ex-jehovah’s witnesses expressing similar symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder when detailing their awakening - my own story included.
Wondered where you were, wake me. I get it... having to “den up” my oldest girl says. Sometimes it isn’t a full-on depression but a conserving of one’s strength and healing that we need quiet.
l am only guessing. But l am glad you checked in. Take care.
i'm a current bible student of jw's looking to chat with someone about biblical doctrine.
i'm not interested in talking with an apostate or a fader, i'm just a person looking for answers and wondered if there are any neutral voices in this forum who have good insights into the bible.
i currently talk with a couple of jw's on a personal level from my congregation and they are knowledgeable to a certain extent, but i dare not ask them certain questions because, as you know, the congregation has a culture of fear that impacts trust and openness, especially concerning biblical doctrine or the societies teachings.
Ttings aren't that cut and dry, i'm actually called "The Borean" in my congregation because I dabble a bit in ancient Hebrew, and I own a strong's concordance and various extra-biblical/historical resources.
You say you aren’t wise enough to make it on your own without religion? Our discovery is that it is less desirable to follow blind men than to fall down on our own.
l reposted your comments. You clearly did not respond to mine. You may not care to. But my own earnest concern for truth and honesty took me away from religion which ultimately is pleased to see followers seem to read scripture as long as they do not think “independently “.
So you effectively are to follow men but do not try to follow Jesus.
