  the witnesses always say they are free in christ, i beg to differ, i don't know how many stupid unscriptural laws they have but lets start a thread on how many dumb witness laws you know and have heard of that make no sense or completely unbelievable, it is like they have a second talmud.

  cant have walt disney movies or stuffed animals as this is magical.

  cant have beards.

  How about:

  -Sisters must wear skirts/ dresses--even dressy pantsuits are frowned upon
  -An unmarried sister and brother cannot go door-to-door in a vehicle alone, or in a vehicle alon--period--without raising serious eyebrows ('cause everyone knows JW's must be mating like rabbits when anyone's back is turned)
  -A sister cannot correct a brother who gives a wrong "fact" at book study (but a brother can correct a sister)
  -NO one can correct the study conductor when he gives wrong "facts" (of course, the study could never get off the ground with that many corrections)

  LMAO about the supposedly demonic smurf running down the KH aisle!!! I have never heard of that.....What kind of organization had I gotten myself into?!!! LOL

  Ya know, one thing I've noticed in reading this thread is that a number of rules listed have morphed/ changed over time--eg., 'brothers can't wear colored shirts' used to be true, but now even JW's smirk at the fact that they were ever made to wear white shirts only. And of course, they consider the fact that rules like this get lifted from time to time to be evidence that Jehovah is keeping one man from having too much authority ('cause one person makes it and later someone else changes it).

  Let's see...how about the fact that there are such an ENDLESS STREAM of these rules that lifting one or two only removes a drop from the bucket and still leaves the congregation deluged and ALL WET!!!

  First...I'm very sorrry to hear about your mom. That must be so difficult for you to deal with right now. My sympathies for your loss....

  Even with that (or perhaps because of that?), I can't help but notice what you've gained in one fell swoop in your chosen way of coping with your loss: You OPENED UP!!! I saw your post on the Nosferatu's dating tips thread (I think that was you), where you said that you were going to try that 'talking with a stranger' thing. DUDE-----YOU DID IT!!!!!!!! I am so proud of you, I cannot begin to say!!!!!!!!!

  Even if it turns out it wasn't you posting on that thread...you still broke out in a very big way!! This speaks volumes about your ability to make postitive changes for yourself. --Keep on...keep on! You deserve so much better, and BETTER is out there waiting for you!!

  i have done no evil, killed no one, never raped or pillaged any witnesses.

  i do not tolerate small-minded witnesses who called me 'brother' for most of 40 years, now acting as if i am no better than sh*t on the bottom of their shoes.

  GaryBuss--- I like how you say, 'sales meetings and sales rallies.'

  You know, this is a whole new perspective for me--since joining the board--but it makes SO much sense, in light of what I've experienced. What else could explain that everything the individual congregation members want to do--to help, in a practical way, the people really needing it--gets SHOT DOWN at the GB level...! Everything not ministry/ distribution-oriented gets shoved aside as a DISTRACTION, taking away from the real goal. The R&F shake their their heads and sit on their hands, still wanting to help where help is needed...but...the literature must go out! Amazing.

  coolhand and i used to go in street work everyday together when we were pioneering.

  i used to be my happiest when i was in the preaching work.

  Yeah, sometimes. But it's the comeradery, and the "helper's high" that comes from volunteering, the sense of assuredness of a meaningful purpose, and the comeradery--the sense of shared purpose, and the fact that I'm a educator at heart, and the comeradery...yeah...the comeradery.

  Service provided immediate feedback that pursuit of long range goals tends to defer. (Like going to school, even to pursue your passion--the classes can take a long time and feel like a lot of drudgery in the meantime. You can even feel purpose-less when you're immersed in the middle of it, even as you are plugging away toward that purposeful, long range goal.)

  Door-to-door ministry provided an immediate purposeful-feedback loop. It can be quite intoxicating. Yeah...I miss that.

  page 18 is the pathetic craptower article, telling women (who have apparently gotten above themselves) that they must be "obedient" to their husbands.

  the entire article is nauseating, and obviously written by bitter old men who have major issues with the opposite sex.

  the february 15th watchtower 2007, is spectacularly nauseating!!!

  at least i found it so.. i would welcome the opinion of all on the board to this sentiment on page 19, paragraph 8 and9:.

  'although subjection can be challenging, women can welcome it as honorable, even as did jesus.

  Notice this nice little twist? Women "set the example for the angels" by submitting to the male spiritual heads of the congregation. So here we have women, who are lower than men, placed somehow above the angels...though men are "a little lower than the angels"...in a very distorted twist of logic that will likely have some very faithful, milquetoast sisters bending themselves into a pretzel to understand this doctrine in a way that does not leave them feeling lower than a dog...but somehow, raises them up as examples to the angels? HUH????!!!!

  Yes, sisters...you can feel better that no one with a penis gives ear or honor to you, because all manner of winged-creatures are intensely watching with bated breath, ready to mimic your every move!
