JWs and Chastity Belts
by Stephanus inin this day and age, chastity devices tend to only be used by the bdsm community and it also seems to be a male kink, where a man's wife/mistress "locks him up" and only "lets him out" for her pleasure, blah, blah, blah.
however, the use of chastity belts for women still exists in many muslim countries and some strict parents in the west will lock up their daughters until they marry, in exchange for college tuition or other incentive (have you thought of this one, tr?
does it happen in the jw community?

THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END
by stillajwexelder intelevisa television network quoted mexico city officials saying there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.. the quake rattled nerves in a city already nervous about a swine flu outbreak suspected of killing as many as 149 people nationwide.. "i'm scared," said sarai luna pajas, a 22-year-old social services worker standing outside her office building moments after it hit.
"we mexicans are not used to living with so much fear, but all that is happening the economic crisis, the illnesses and now this it feels like the apocalypse.".
co-worker harold gutierrez, 21, said the country was taking comfort from its religious faith, but he too was gripped by the sensation that the world might be coming to an end.. "if it is, it is god's plan," gutierrez.

They need MORE $$$$$
by TallTexan ini haven't been to a meeting in years, but i was recently told by a friend of mine that they have really been hammering the 'use of your valuable things in support of the kingdom' in many of the talks and thursday night parts.
i know they used to mention it all the time, but he said it's gotten really bad lately.
i told him that's because the membership in the western (translate that to "richer"...lol) countries has really fallen off and even become negative in many countries and that the 3rd world countries can't contribute enough to support the great publishing empire.

For fun list how you feel Watchtower is the Anti-Christ
by ARoarer inon studying the bible in the past and learning watchtower's definitions of false doctrine, i have been able to reason now when i compare these teachings to be anti christian.
i read another post that listed all of their articles that make the "trinity" of jehovah, his word and the organiztion.
after viewing the articles listed it made me feel how against christ they really are, even though they give lip service to him.

Clarification on Blood in Bulgaria
by Mad Sweeney init's been established that the wt convinced the bulgarian government that there are "no sanctions" on jws who accept blood transfusions, in order to obtain legal recognition by that government.
my question is this:.
does the wt actually now allow bulgarian jws to accept blood transfusions without consequence?.

British Sociologist Predicts Possible Collapse in Jehovah's Witness Numbers
by slimboyfat ina newly published article by british sociologist david voas argues jehovah's witnesses may be about to experience a collapse in numbers.
contrary to claims by american sociologist rodney stark who predicts strong future growth for jehovah's witnesses, voas shows that jehovah's witnesses' efforts at recruiting new members have become increasingly unsuccessful over the past few decades: the rate of increase has steadily declined, and the number of hours each publisher must preach to produce an extra convert has gone up substantially.
voas suggests a reason for the stagnation may be that there is a natural limit to the number of people in a given population that are susceptible to conversion to sectarian groups like jehovah's witnesses - the 'carrying capacity' of the population, and that the limit has largely been reached.

Circuit Overseer Pensions and the Implications
by AlanF ini just learned that the watchtower society has instituted a pension plan of sorts for circuit overseers.
this is a big change.. previous to this new plan, the various kinds of "traveling overseers" were pretty much on their own when they retired from the traveling work.
in a few cases, such men were invited to live out their lives in bethel, but in most cases they simply went back to being normal rank and file members who had to fend for themselves financially.. i can only speculate that the reason for this change was that the society has been having difficulty getting elders to become circuit overseers.
